We rented bikes in town and rode the Mission Trail with this destination. It was a wonderful experience. Rode through interesting neighborhoods, some looking a little dicey but we never felt unsafe. Stoppes at Mission Conception first then San Jose. This is the jewel of the missions and we were really glad we did it, and especially by bike. Learned a lot, and marvelled at the building. Good film at Visitors Center.

San Antonio came to be because of the missions, no one should visit San Antonio and not know how it came to be. The San Jose Mission has a great Visitor Center which provides a historical movie on the missions and the people that created this proud city.
Watch the movie before you take the tour or before you walk through the mission. Don't miss the Rose Window ot the colorful alter in the church.
If you took the time to see the Alamo, do yourself a favor and see this mission to better understand the heritage and importance of the mission system in Texas.
