Description: One of the Top 25 Bars in America, The Esquire Tavern opened in 1933 to celebrate the end of Prohibition - a beloved San Antonio watering hole ever since. When it comes to choosing the best Riverwalk bars to spend your time, atmosphere certainly matters. Our legendary establishment is the quintessential downtown bar: dark, cool, redolent with history, and serving cold beer, swanky cocktails, and excellent food. Don't believe us? Step right up and sink your teeth into some handmade SA comfort food including Organic Sirloin Burgers, Crispy Chile Salted Fries, Big Red Empanadas, and Fried Apple Pie with Bourbon Carmel Sauce made from scratch! Now that you trust us a bit more....feel free to stay a while and enjoy hand crafted cocktails using the best of spirits and freshest of juices from the Margarita to the Moscow Mule. Beer lovers, indulge with over 10 Texas/regional brews on tap and enjoy the ice cold bottled beers you love.

Hipster bar tenders who are not particularly polite or talkative, combined with over-priced beer and mixed drinks make this a bar you can pass up. The bar itself is nice, traditional looking with lots of wood and light fixtures with exposed Edison style bulbs. Didn't bother to try the food because the overall atmosphere drove me away.

Longest bar in Texas. Try the plain Daiquiri, wonderful. Food very good, and spicey. Almost too much for me. ( I am not a TEXAN ) Also on the River Walk. fun

If you like to venture into more of a local atmosphere than a "chain" or hotel restaurant, then you need to give this place a try.

Great staff.. everyone was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Service was quick on both food and beverages. (Bison burger was awesome)

The Esquire is NOT the Esquire of your. No shootings, no charaters out of a Scorcese movie, no persons of questionable intent.

The cocktail list is 8 pages long. I tried two of them- the Moscow Mule and another one (can't remember it but it had gin and anise and was YUM)

Two of the group sampled a variety of the beer and one had wine. All pronounced them quite good.

We got the fries (delish!), the deviled eggs (perfect), the pimento cheese bacon sandwich (a fabu combo), the fish and chips (very nicely done) and two people who got the mashed potato tacos pronounced them to be amazing.

If you're going to go someplace on the Riverwalk, check out the Esquire. It's a hidden spot of fun in the middle of Tourist Inc.

This is a fabulous looking place, open since 1933 and it doesn't look like they've changed a thing. Have a seat at that looong beautiful bar and sample 2 or 3 of the best cocktails you are likely to find anywhere. These bartenders know their craft. Try something made with their homemade ginger beer, which has a nice mellow/spicy burn to it. Sadly, we did not even get to the food menu, but if we get back to SA we will definitely be back at the Esquire.
