Description: Built as an addition to the original hotel and later remodeled by San Antonio architect Atlee B. Ayres in 1912, the Colonial Room Restaurant reflects the prevailing neoclassical style of its time. Decades of elaborate balls and parties have been hosted in this room. Among the celebrities who have dined here are Presidents Grant and McKinley, Robert E. Lee, and French actress Sarah Bernhardt. The Colonial Room Restaurant's famous mango ice cream was served at both of President Clinton’s inaugurations. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the Colonial Room Restaurant features a fabulous noontime lunch buffet featuring their Signature Menger Tortilla Soup and Bread Pudding. Don't miss the popular Sunday Brunch buffet, which includes your first glass of champagne or mimosa; reservations highly recommended.

Very quaint and a relaxing atmosphere, but a bit pricey. From omelets, fruits, hot and cold cereal, and bread/muffins.

The Brunch is very reasonably priced and offers many options in a beautiful old hotel. In addition to the restaurant, we took a brief tour of the hotel, which we hadn't done before (it's haunted) and the room rates are reasonable to be right next to the Alamo. They never have a happy hour although we have dropped in for various groups for a drink and appetizers.

Located in the Historic Menger Hotel near the Alamo. Beautiful "elegant" restaurant with very reasonable lunch prices. Very attentive service.

Had 1/2 chicken salad sandwich with cup of their signature tortilla soup. Their twist is that they use beef instead of chicken in the soup. Delicious!

For dessert, I had the chocolate cake with their famous mango ice cream. The cake was a tad dry, so the ice cream helped. The mango ice cream lived up to the hype.

Also offered a pretty extensive lunch buffet with many hot & cold items -- including their signature items (tortilla soup, mango ice cream and bread pudding).

If I had more time and a bigger appetite, I probably would have tried the buffet.

Don't let the restaurant's elegance fool you -- the prices (at least for lunch) are very comparable to other downtown restaurants. Go to the Alamo in the morning, then have lunch here!

Ate dinner and breakfast here whilst staying in the hotel. The set price buffet breakfast contained lots of choice. I also enjoyed my diner. Staff were friendly.
