Recently stayed at The Menger for 3 nights and wow. From the minute we entered the foyer it was amazing, the front desk were very friendly and helpful and so was the valet. Our room was on the 3rd floor (i think the most haunted one) and the room itself was really nice. The furnishings were just what we expected, it was spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable and there was a coffee maker, iron & ironing board. The only thing missing was a safe but we have a case that locks so it wasn't a problem. The pool area was also amazing, very peaceful and relaxing. The Menger bar was great, such history involved with the bar and the hotel you could just take in the surroundings with a few drinks. I loved this hotel and if I was ever lucky enough to stay in San Antonio again I will definitely be booking here.

A beautiful hotel, recently updated with a gorgeous and clean, well-kept pool area. I love the history and the location, while not on the river, is tops - directly across the street from the Alamo. I love the bar, and Haagen Das is just downstairs.

Coordinated with the front desk manager well ahead of time & he got us a beautiful room on the 3rd floor over the front entrance with 2 balconies/king size bed/fruit basket!! The room was also in a quiet area with very little if any room to room noise! When we checked in the greeting at the front desk was "Happy 50th"!! The bellmen/front desk staff/management were all very helpful & friendly. Also, the entire hotel was extremely clean approaching spit shined!! The only negative in the room was the tiny bathroom, attributed to the historic nature of the hotel.

Perfect location and beautiful, historic hotel located next door to the Alamo, River Center Mall and very, very close to River Walk!
The beds are wonderful!!!
The hotel itself has tons of history. It is beautifully kept and full of displays and artifacts from its long and colorful history. There are display cases of artifacts, uniforms, pictures and stories of figures through history who have stayed or visited here: Teddy Roosevelt, Rob. E Lee, Mae West, etc. The Victorian section is so beautiful with a 3 story lobby and stained glass skylight.
Beautiful, large pool enclosed in one courtyard while a lovely garden is enclosed in another. We had a delicious meal in the hotel restaurant while part of a ghost tour of the hotel and city.
If you are attending a conference at the Convention Center it's a short walk (especially so if you cut through the Mall entrance at one end of the hotel and take River Walk doors located at the food court - husband was attending a conference at the Conv. Center).
Our room did not have a refrigerator but all we had to do say something and - Poof!- one appeared in our room! Staff is extremely nice!! Extremely.
As it is historic, there weren't as many electrical outlets as our family of four needed for our charging needs but we worked it out. No microwave in room. That is why we gave it a four rating. Wish we could give it a 4.5 but that is not on the rating scale.
We liked it much, much better than staying in the usual "beige" standard hotel.
I would most certainly stay here again and really look forward to it.

We stayed here for a special weekend away and it was wonderful. The hotel is historically elegant. Our room (2026) was a moderate size, but was very clean with a view of the Spanish Courtyard through full-size (floor to ceiling) windows. High ceilings in the room (10'+) with a ceiling fan. Very, very nice.
