Our room had a/c issues and would not cool. Engineer David came up twice in the evening attempting to fix unsuccessfully. We were told the hotel was fully booked, so we were offered a couple of fans to help with comfort. A few minutes later David came back to our door saying he found us another room (recent maintenance) and wanted to know if we wanted to move. After checking out the room, valet moved us up one floor and we were comfortable the rest of our stay. We were fairly compensated for our inconvenience. Everyone we came in contact with were exceptional, especially David, the engineer who saved the day!

This sits next door to the Alamo and only a few short blocks from the River Walk. Back behind the hotel there is also a branch off of the Riverwalk where you can catch a small boat at night and view the nightlife plus have a historical dissertation. During the day you can hop on a bus for about $33 that will take you all around the city.. There are two main flea market type atmospheres along that tour. One is upscale and it seems 1 of every ten people had their pets with them. An old brewery is converted to an upscale restaurant. On the other side of town is a flea market full of Hispanic culture. You can hop on and off of the bus tour at any stop and the buses come about every 20 minutes or so. Your ticket will be good for 24 hours. Lackland AFB is quite near and thus you will see many young military people in uniform.. Some of them new to the Air Force and enjoying seeing the historical San Antonio. Valet parking can be expensive at the hotel for around $28 per day. However, the Crocket hotel sits right next door and on the other side of you you can park your car for $10 per day. There are many discounts for Military at restaurants and other places. Actually there is even a city parking spot that allows military to park for around $3 a day but it is a few blocks from the Menger hotel. On the River Walk we even found a 24 hour restaurant..Approximately five Presidents have stayed at the Menger Hotel.

Lovely visit! We always stay at the Menger while visiting our old home. My kids grew up in San Antonio. I love the city and the Menger is elegant and haunted!! Takes us back in time and feels like home away from home! Bar is the best!

Being at the Menger is a cross between staying at a luxury hotel and a museum of San Antonio history. We loved everything about it and will absolutely be returning. I told my daughter that when she is planning her wedding, she needs to consider this as her venue. I can't say enough about how beautifully restored the hotel is. The staff is attentive, friendly and very helpful. You are across the street from Alamo in one direction and the famous Riverwalk in the other direction. We paid for the breakfast and valet special and it was worth every penny. We made reservations for Sunday night at the Colonial Restaurant in the hotel and enjoyed a wonderful filet mignon dinner. If you are ever in San Antonio, book this over one of the chain hotels on the river. We stayed in one of those on our last visit and even 15 stories up, the noise from the bars on the Riverwalk kept us awake much of the night. The Menger is close to the action but quiet and personal.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the Historic Wing. The Lanier Suite is particularly nice with a separate living room and large bedroom.

We live in San Antonio and love to take the time out of our schedules at least once a month to have a little staycation and by far The Menger is one of our favorite places to stay when downtown. The service is amazing, the view from our room was beautiful and we will be back for sure!
