Description: The Atrisco Cafe & Bar is a friendly, neighborhood New Mexican restaurant. Our philosophy is simple recipes, fresh ingredients, and friendly service. We cater to the tastes of Santa Feans who love authentic New Mexican chile, but also offer a small but carefully crafted selection of American dishes such as burgers with house-cut fries, Southwest Chicken Salad, and Meat Loaf. When possible, we purchase New Mexico grown ingredients, including all-natural grass-fed ground beef, lamb, red and green chile, honey, and vegetables when in season.

This place was recommended by our WorldMark staff. It is in a shopping center on Guadalupe where there is an Albertsons, Sprouts and CVS. The place was packed on Tuesday night. We ordered a liter of house margaritas which was very good. Our appetizer was the grand nachos, delicious. For dinner we each had the $13.50 chicken fajitas. They came with loaded sides, salsa, guacamole, sour cream and beans. Enough forn3 fajitas each but I could only eat one. Also included were sopapilas and how new. Absolutely delicious!! Brenda was our server and she also was attentive, friendly and great!

Nothing special but fairly consistent food and service. The chicken Enchiladas are very good. The sopapillas are fantastic.

Life-long resident but had never tried Atriscos until about a year ago. Really pleased with the food, great red chile. However, we've had several times where we show up for dinner and they put Lunch menus on the table. It's about $1.5 more for a dinner than lunch but the Lunch menus clearly say 11am - 9pm so it's reasonable to expect that's the price you will pay. But, when the bill comes it's always the more expensive price. We've mentioned this to them before and they say something like "it's only a dollar". Anyway, I no longer think it's an accident and I think they are intentionally laying out lunch menus and that it's misleading and maybe illegal to show one price and charge a higher one.

Plus, this last visit, they brought my wife the wrong dinner (she accepted it anyway because we were with a group and didn't want to deal with that) and they didn't bring sopaipillas that were supposed to be included - we had to ask when basically the meal was done. Disappointing.

It's too bad that because we'd like to eat there more often but don't like to patronize businesses that pull this kind of crap.

When we asked the desk clerk at Las Palomas for a good nearby place to eat outside of the tourist area, he immediately told us to try the Atrisco Cafe because it was a local favorite.

We decided to walk since our phone-gps said it was less than a mile away. We expected a pleasant little stroll, but nope, heavy traffic with lots of exhaust all the way there. Then, when we saw the place was right inside the entrance to a small mall, we looked at each other and said, "Uh-oh, looks like we may have made a mistake."

Well, we didn't. The place was clean, the service prompt and courteous, and most importantly, the food was terrific!

It was about 6 pm when we got there, and the place was crowded, but no waiting line had formed yet so we were seated right away. The menu was filled with all the New Mexican specialties that you'd expect. We started with the guacamole, salsa, and chips appetizer combo. The chips were warm, the guacamole was fresh, and the salsa had a bite but wasn't overpowering.

I ordered the carne adovada, and my wife had their tamale-enchilada combo plate. I love chile relllenos and was able to order one on the side. We thought the food was great, and both the red and green sauces excellent. The carne adovada was expecially good, and my wife really enjoyed her tamale. The breading on the relleno was a little thick for my taste, but overall, this was a great place to eat.

Oh, it's inexpensive too. I don't think anything on the menu approaches $20, and most entrees were priced at around $12.
