“The ONLY place to stay in Santa Fe”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2012

This is the original Santa Fe resort. Right on the Plaza, you can walk out to tons of shops, restaurants and art galleries. The original part of the hotel was built in the 1920's and has smaller rooms, but they are well-appointed. The Terrace rooms are newer (1980's), and are on a concierge floor. What really sets this place apart is the service. They GET customer service here, unlike many other Santa Fe hotels where you get attitude above all else. Everyone from the front desk to the dining room and housekeeping staff went out of their way to be sure we were happy. The bell tower bar is the best place in Santa Fe to watch the sun set.

Room Tip: Try to book a terrace room.

Thanks for taking the time to note your experience at La Fonda on the Plaza. I’m happy that you enjoyed your stay at “the original Santa Fe resort.” In fact, many accounts report that a fonda (Spanish for the word inn) was located on the Plaza shortly after the 1610 founding of the Villa de Santa Fe. With such a long history, our property is constantly changing with the times – so, I am glad that you had the opportunity to experience both the historic and the more modern aspects of the hotel.

We have stayed at La Fonda several times over the past several years and the Hotel is always top notch. We've stayed on business trips as well as vacations, and the staff is consistently friendly, the rooms clean and the service more than expected. You can't beat the location - right on the plaza. The hotel dining is delicious. The one drawback is the parking garage which is super tight, but understandable due to its location. Worth the visit!

we were camping at the KOA in Santa Fe, but made a special effort to get into town and visit the LaFonda, especially the lunch-time buffet..it's the best deal on the Plaza!

This is a very well-run and well-located hotel. However, it does have a bit of a Las Vegas ambiance (albeit a pretty elegant one) in that it is literally never necessary to leave the property. You can dine in any of a number of facilities (the Plazuela wonderful), shop for most necessities, explore galleries etc. without ever going outside. The rooms on the upper floors are quieter.

It’s so true! You can experience the best of Santa Fe without ever leaving our doors! La Fonda on the Plaza is home to authentic New Mexican cuisine at our restaurant, LaPlazuela; galleries, boutiques, and some of the best rooftop sunsets and margaritas in town. I’m glad that you had the opportunity to enjoy the many facets of our hotel. Thank you for your business, and I look forward to welcoming you back to the “La Fonda Biosphere!”

The location is great-- just steps away from the old plaza. Our room was very nice with a king bed, TV, coffee maker, refrigerator, Internet access, and a separate sitting area with sofa and desk. Loved the Southwest motif and view from the large window overlooking shops near the plaza. My only complaint about the room was the uneven floor which tripped me up several times. The staff was friendly and efficient. The ground floor of the hotel included a restaurant, bar/dining area, a pastry shop, and several gift shops. There was a nice pool and spa area. A parking garage is connected to the property and there was a $12 per day charge. We enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay here again.

I drove down to Santa Fe from Denver with my Mom for a job interview at the Health Department, but we also decided to make a mini vacation out of the trip. Based on research and previous reviews, we chose La Fonda as our hotel. The staff was so welcoming and accomodating. We had an older couple next door that kept coughing and coughing, so we finally asked if we could switch our room (something we've never done!) at 10:30 pm since I had my interview the following morning. Dennis made it so easy and gave us an incredible - and quiet! - room on the terrace along with complementary breakfast. This is a perfect example of excellent customer service!

The hotel itself is beautiful and charming - I love all the attention to detail with the painted glass, walls, etc. We also had dinner & breakfast at La Plazuela - every meal was fantastic! And of course, as the name suggests, the location could not be any more ideal. The plaza is across the street, and limitless shops, cafes, restaurants, and historical sights are absolutely within walking distance. We will not hesitate to stay at La Fonda the next time we find ourselves in Santa Fe!

Room Tip: The Terrace rooms are incredible - very quiet, spacious, and luxurious! You'll even have your ow...

I’m so happy that your mini vacation to Santa Fe landed you and your mother at La Fonda on the Plaza! I was sorry, however, to learn that you had to change accommodations so late in the evening, but glad that the swap was completed efficiently, and that Dennis provided quiet and comfortable accommodations on the Terrace. I hope that your interview was a success, and that we will be seeing more of you and your family here at La Fonda. Best of luck!
