We couldn't have asked for a more pleasant stay. We spent a night at the Mimslyn Inn a number of years ago and recently visited again. The staff couldn't have been more polite and courteous. Our room was beautiful and cozy. The dining hall was wonderfully lit and the food was delicious. We will definitely be returning.

I can not find a thing to complain about. Everything was perfect! The food was very good. We had lunch, dinner and breakfast the next day. My group and I were here to celebrate two of our group birthdays. My room was beautiful and quiet! So roomy, I could have had a party in it. The hospitality was above reproach. I plan to recommend The Mimslyn to everyone I know!!

I was so impressed with the Mimslyn Inn exterior and lobby. In November,my husband and I were sightseeing and spent some time in Luray, VA. The hotel was decorated for Thanksgiving giving it some extra color. The hotel staff was friendly and the hotel was very clean.
Our room, however, was very small. If someone sat at the desk, the other one could not walk around the room to get to the TV. The main dining room, Circa 31, was not opened for dinner the night we were there. We dined in their pub, called Speakeasy, which was adequate for dinner. Nothing spectacular or memorable in terms of the food. We did have breakfast in Circa 31 which was pretty good. They had specials for diners staying at the hotel which were a good value. This hotel was a good change from staying at a chain hotel since it offered a local feel and it is close to the Luray Caverns which is a tourist destination.

Room Tip: Check on room size. They may have larger rooms for additional fee.

Myself, my wife, my son, uncle and cousins dined at a restaurant in Luray - the Speakeasy in the Mimslyn Inn last night. The food... I use that term loosely... was prepared without any love... ANY love. One dish - Talapia with jasmine rice, ordered by Diane and Bob was horrible. I ordered a grilled Ribeye with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Funny thing - it was a strip steak without any seasoning, potatoes from a box and asparagus impregnated in the aforementioned potatoes. Vile. The entire meal was horrid. When we talk about preparing food with love, this was the perfect example of a loveless meal. Sad, really. The service was good, and the place was nice, but the food was prepared with any care or regard for the diners enjoyment.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Minslyn Inn. The Inn is beautiful and elegant and the view from our room was amazing. They could have been a little cleaner (there were dead flies on our window sills and the maid did not service our room even though we had put the sign on the door). That wasn't too big of a deal because we were only there for 2 nights. The people at the front desk were wonderfully helpful and friendly. We had dinner at the Speakeasy Lounge and it was fantastic. The live music gave the place a nice vibe. We also had an amazing breakfast at Circa 31 - my husband had the pecan waffle w/ home made ice cream and said it was delicious. We will definitely recommend The Mimslyn Inn to all of our friends and family.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a mountian view if you are given a choice. Also, book in advance, we were able t...

This inn gets high marks consistently from visitors and they are well deserved! Something we found "curious" though was that the townsfolk are unusually quiet about the Mimslyn which we found odd. Vendors we 'visited" over our week's stay would ask where we were staying, and when we'd answer, they'd say NOTHING!! New owners came in over a decade before so perhaps there is some 'bad blood' there? Don't know, but we certainly found this strange! Not one vendor "stepped up" to say 'nice place' or whatever. Granted, they didn't say anything bad, either, but omission made it seem as though that was their opinion. Hmm! We DID have a problem with the smaller ants in our bathroom, and housekeeping was alerted every day on this but every day, the ants were still there. Hopefully, they fumigated the room after we left. Although hubby disagrees, I have to wonder if we brought the ants back with us. Within a day of our return home, we had these same ants on our kitchen counter. Now granted, we HAVE had problems with this before but NOT in the Fall that I recall. Normally, they only appear in the Spring but we have been experiencing unusually warm temps and dampness so who knows. If i were to repeat there, though, I'd make sure to do an 'ant inspection" immediately and change rooms if found rather than tough it out. Another disappointment was the hot tub was an outdoor one with no cover so it was filled with leaves and non-functional. Maybe it is only a 'seasonal " one, but with Fall being peak visitor time and we're assuming, a hikers' destination ,which was the case with us, you'd think they'd have a hot tub up and running. You may be wondering, with these 'criticisms', why is she giving the property a 5 Star rating??!!? This is because the property itself is so beautiful, the location atop a hill so grand, the staff so friendly and calm , the music wafting through the lobby so pleasing , the restaurant food so good , the price VERY reasonable especially since this was peak time, that the Con's were FAR outweighed by the Pro's. Room was smaller but certainly not "confining" as some have inferred. We were on the third level and our room was directly across a reading room/ lounge area and a large outdoor deck from which you could see the town and the sunset. We enjoyed spending time in both those areas. The weekend brought some loud and noisy guests, but when we mentioned it to the staff, it was immediately addressed and the guests were quiet. The property was established in 1931 and although those new owners I mentioned previously 'upgraded ' it, it still has that early period feel. It is as though you are stepping back in time. The food in the downstairs Speakeasy was EASILY the BEST in Luray. We dined there twice. We are talking "melt in your mouth good!" i was PURRING throughout the meal as was hubby! We also appreciated that they had a Fitness room . Nothing 'fancy' there but they had the basics ( ie. Ellyptical, stationery bike, etc.), all of which we used on the pair of rainy days that made hiking not wise. Bottom line, I / we would STRONGLY recommend this property to Skyline Drive Leaf-Peepers or for those planning a more extended stay for hiking .

Thank you for reviewing your experience at The Mimslyn Inn. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the location and charm of the inn as well as the great southern hospitality provided by our staff. Our owners, who purchased the inn in 2005, completed a multi-million dollar restoration of the inn in 2008. During the restoration, they took great care to maintain a balance between upgrading to the modern conveniences and preserving the historic charm and integrity of the inn. We can say with the utmost confidence that there is no “bad blood” between our owners and the local business community. From the time the owners purchased the inn, they have built and maintained a very favorable relationship with the other business owners and residents of the town of Luray. Our management staff and employees are also very involved with the local business community. In 2010, the inn was nominated by the other area businesses and awarded the Business of the Year award from the Luray-Page County Chamber of Commerce.

We are so happy that you enjoyed your guest room location (on the 3rd floor) across from our Skyline Terrace. This location is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the wonderful views from the inn. Thank you so much for your rave reviews about The Speakeasy! Hearing that you were “Purring” throughout you meal is quite a compliment!

Please accept our sincere apologies for the ants that you found in your room. I believe you may be correct in your assessment that the recent unseasonably warm temperatures and increased rainfall may have brought in the ants that we typically wouldn’t see this time of year (at home or while traveling). With that being said, all guest concerns and feedback are taken very seriously by our employees and management staff at the inn. We do our best to correct a guest's concerns as soon as they are brought to our attention, in order to ensure guest satisfaction. Upon receiving your feedback during your stay, our housekeeping department inspected your room in order to correct the problem. However, apparently we did not completely remove the all of the ants. Rest assured, we have treated the room again following your departure to make sure the problem has been corrected.

In regards to the hot tub, it was actually open during your stay. Because of the time of year, the leaves are flying around in a furry. We have a sign near the pool/hot tub area for guests to please contact the front desk if they would like to use the hot tub and we will have a staff member clean out the leaves for you. We apologize if you did not see the signage. Upon receiving your feedback we have instructed our front desk staff to make sure they cover this during the check-in process to avoid any future confusion.

Thank you again for your review and for strongly recommending us to others who are traveling to Luray/Skyline Drive. We look forward to welcoming you as our guest again in the future!
