Beautiful walk. We went after many of the leaves blew off the day after a snowstorm but it was still a beautiful walk. The drive seemed like a long ways on the dirt road but it was worth it.

The arboretum was low key the day we visited. Lovely to enjoy a welcoming and beautiful spot. There are tables outside for picnicking which would be fun another time.

My favorite things were the butterflies and the carefully designed section that analyzes the setting by zones, teaching the observer how to consider planting in ones own yard to conserve water. There are also beautiful gardens to walk through.

The land was donated and an impressive green building constructed. The arboretum encompasses many acres and it appears much of the space used for research.

Visiting the Arboretum is a bit of a ride outside of town, but well worth the trip. Of course it seemed much shorter on the way back and we took a much closer look at the lovely wooded road as we went. The Arboretum offers tours but we opted to follow the self-guided walking tour on the handy map given out at the entry. The buildings are interesting in themselves, and the walking tour winds its way around different kinds of plant areas. Take your time and enjoy all of the varied plants. We also enjoyed the butterfly pavilion. It is not large but stocked really well with lovely flowers and lots of butterflies. Unfortunately, there was only one chair inside so sitting and relaxing was not possible, and when a school group came in (they loved it!) it got a bit crowded. There are several areas for a picnic -- something we'll remember next time we visit.

They have wonderfully maintained trails here and you can see lots of different plants, flowers and lots of birds too. The pond also has some frogs if you are lucky enough to spot them. Nice little visitor center too with some good information and a cute gift shop.

We spent an hour or so walking thru the arboretum looking at all the native plants, trees and bushes. It's very peaceful and pretty in a sort of English garden style. The butterfly house was the highlight of our visit. They have a tall case of butterflies in the chrysalis stage and we got to see 2 emerge! Very cool. Everyone we encountered was very knowledgeable and pleasant. Don't miss the gift shop, there are some unusual items. The small inside display area to the right of where you pay is interesting. Half price on Fridays!

Compared to other Arboretums I have been at this is small and still looks like they are developing it. The butterfly exhibit was very nice and it was a great walk around. I wish the Arboretum would have more tags on the plants, flowers etc to let you know what you were looking at.

A treasure on the outskirts of Flagstaff. 3 miles or so of rough road but worth the effort. Take a lunch with you and picnic. Very nice butterfly exhibit.

If you like natural beauty, plants, and pretty backdrops for pictures this place is for you. If none of that interests you, then skip it. Kids seem to enjoy this place as well.

Be sure to take a docent tour to become familiar with the grounds and facilities. It's easy to miss some of the more interesting aspects of the Arboretum if you just wander around on your own. There is a lot of history in the Arboretum itself, but moreso it is engaged in research and preservation of the habitat. The Butterfly House is small, but fun. If you enjoy horticulture, a visit to the potting area where they are preserving local flora. There are many special events ranging from plant sales to wine tastings, etc. It's also a beautiful venue for a wedding or special event.
