Background- former Platinum member for YEARS, now just gold. But I have a LOT of experience with Marriotts, and Courtyards in particular.
Upon check in, I showed the front desk clerk the AAA rate from their (AAA) site on my phone. $136. She said her best rate was going to be $143. I said I’d book through AAA and be back in 2 minutes.
She was kind enough to finally match the price. Saved me a couple minutes from going online, but also costed a couple going through the exercise.
Next, I was handed a slip for my car (to place in window to show I was a guest). And a $6/nt charge with it!!! At a COURTYARD? They certainly found a way to get $6 of my $7 savings back. Ha. There is no parking garage.
(Watch out for the homeless guy urinating in the corner of the unsecure lot you just paid for- hope the kids don’t see).
Not sure which “business travelers” built this courtyard, because most come to Courtyard to not get nickel and dimed w parking, bell, internet and resort fees.
I understand Covid is a concern. But hotels are using it as an excuse to cut services and limit food. Breakfast? Oatmeal, blueberry muffin or egg sandwich. Since you are cutting services, how about handing out the measly breakfast for free. It would be a nice gesture.
Room? Dark dark dark. At 7pm I had every light on and it was still dark. TV takes up most of the workspace. Hard to get work done. Poor room layout. Couch appears to have come from a 70’s porn film. I wasn’t gonna sit on it.
Bed was a bit firm. Was up tossing all night. Not a luxurious bed by any means.
You are allotted shampoo for barely one person. .75 ounces. Not sure what I can do with that. Head to the lobby for more.
Other than a sketchy couch, room was CLEAN.
The best part? The lobby was beautiful. Empty. But beautiful. Very clean and lots of work spaces (maybe that is why there is no lighting in the rooms).
Overall, Clean lobby and rooms. If I am in Manhattan or parked in a secure garage, I understand a parking fee. Not in Flagstaff. I’d like at least 1 Oz of shampoo. I’d like to be able to see in my room. And I’d like a clear area to work.
Won’t be my first choice on my next visit to Flagstaff. I have always appreciated the “built by business travelers for business travelers” marketing angle. This courtyard misses the mark.
