The building was a hospital. You can see the nurse's room with the original, 100 year old paint. There's an iron lung from 50+ years ago and an old switchboard.

Rooms upstairs cover the area by the decade. I especially enjoyed the Route 66 exhibit. Downstairs rooms have special exhibits. Be sure to go to the barn for the buggies and see the locomotive and other outdoor exhibits.

Note, there were no working public restrooms in the building when I was there. Be prepared to use the outside portable toilets.

Thank you for the positive review of Pioneer Museum. We apologize for the toilet inconvenience--utility workers were conducting minor maintenance on the water line outside of our property on the morning of your visit, and the water was turned off for about an hour. We are back to normal now!

The Pioneer Museum is not large, but it is packed with exhibits which are very well done. Using the old hospital building makes the museum interesting on more than one level. We could tell that good planning was used to stage the items on display, especially the current exhibit which features Hispanic families who came to live in Flagstaff years ago.

Very interesting self guided tour. Was previously a hospital and had an iron lung on view. If you are in to history of the area I would make this a stop.

There are hours of fun with outdoor and indoor exhibits of everything from the largest farm machinery and trains you can walk in to the smallest tools of pioneer life. I had the pleasure of talking with the Director Dr. Bill Peterson whose enthusiasm was contagious. As a history buff and professional tour guide in DC I was pleasantly surprised at the detail he was able to provide in addition to the exhibits.

Even if you aren't a history person, never fear, the upstairs does a great job of taking you through the decades of Flagstaff and AZ while providing perspective. They also have a great staff for questions and even mountaineer demonstrations where they shoot blanks! Whether you want to stand in an old mountaineers house, walk through a train caboose, or see trinkets and tools going back centuries this should definitely be a stop for you!

The Pioneer Museum costs $ 6 for admissions and it used to be a hospital.
So you learn about the different instruments, machines used in 1800 hundreds. For example you can see the first x ray machine and a lung machine that was used for polio. The museum besides showing you a homestead , barn and an old root cellar , also has upstairs rooms dedicated to different decades and all the inventions from that decade. Great museum and it only takes around an hour to see it all! Believe it or not is a fun museum.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a glowing review! Our museum team works very hard to provide a high quality visitor experience, not only with our exhibits but also with our customer service. The featured exhibit, Todos Unidos: The Hispanic Experience in Flagstaff, runs through April 2018 and focuses on the immigrant workforce and families that helped develop Flagstaff as the economic and cultural hub for the region.
