As a family 6 we stayed 5 nights in the Mailani Towers. The Hotel was situated literally on Waikiki Beach- sea was warm and clear and not as busy as I thought it would be.We had breakfast at the hotel every morning - plenty of choice, food was fresh including delicious fruit and local breads.
We booked 2 sea view rooms, and we were not disappointed-waking up to stunning views each morning was simply amazing.
Staff were polite and very helpful, special mention to Carol,Evelyn and Myra who kept our rooms spotlessly clean.
In the evenings we were able enjoy complimentary wine, beers and snacks in the lounge before exploring more of Honolulu.
I feel that some of the furnishings were a bit worn for a 5 star hotel and a little refurbishment is needed.
However this did not detract from us having an amazing time.

Room Tip: Situated on Waikiki Beach

We stayed in this hotel for one night prior to our cruise of the islands. We arrived really early in the morning after an overnight flight from Vegas, so we were really tired. We had a complimentary breakfast sitting overlooking Waikiki beach. You could help yourself and also order at the table. We got a lounger at the pool and spent the morning there. We didn't get into our room until 3pm, but they upgraded us free of charge to a sea view historic room. There was a birthday cake in the room for my partners Big Birthday which was a lovely touch.
The room is very traditional with quality fittings. We also got the complimentary banana bread which was delicious. The grounds are lovely and its so central for the shops but also very quiet.

Tucked away along a beautiful scenic beach, The Royal Hawaiian Hotel offers luxury through an open door to the rich history of Oahu. Stroll along the beach, relax at the pool, or shop in style just steps from any direction. A perfect place to unwind and ignite LOVE. Don't believe it, I saw a minimum of 8 weddings while there. Book early.

My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights in the Mailani tower with a great ocean front room. It’s a very cool hotel and right in a great location for beach activities and shopping. We enjoyed the free drinks and food downstairs and also the access to the Sheraton pool as well as the pink palace pool. The beach has the option of using one of the hotels loungers right by the water and we highly recommend that. The food at the hotel was very good and the Mai Tai bar was a lot of fun. The rooms could use a bit of updating and the air conditioners are loud. We were in a group so we know that most of us had very very loud air conditioning units which made it hard to sleep. My wife even used air plugs and her noise canceling head phones to sleep. This was after changing rooms once already. They were all the same. The staff were very nice and we will look to staying here again once it’s gone through an upgrade.

My overview of the hotel is that I had a good experience and I like the hotel and I would return and stay again. The good stuff:

1. Great beach
2. Great bar - Mai Tai
3. Easy to rent surf boards and paddle boards
4. Turtle Canyon, where one can swim with green turtles is an easy .25 mile swim
5. Overall cleanly appearance
6. Decent restaurant (Azure) and breakfast buffet

The details is where this hotel could improve:

The shower did not work well.
The toilet had some outdated crappy but washing system on it that did not function.
Rooms could be cleaner
The luxury tower has a front view of the ocean but a back view of garbage. Literally garbage cans
Tiny and useless pool
The luxury lounge food is TERRIBLE

The highlights, Sean Penn was staying there. The place has an AMAZING location. One can walk to Duke's and shopping and the beach and Diamond Head etc. Friendly staff, good for kids and overall a positive experience.

Room Tip: Luxury Tower rooms are best
