Having stayed at The Breakers 45 years ago at 11 years of age I was so surprised to see the hotel had lost none of its charm !
OK it isn't 5 star and it was built in the 50s BUT the hospitality, location and old Hawai'ian vibe is 5+ star. We stayed in a poolside garden suite (much recommended). The rooms are so spacious with the added advantage of a kitchenette.
The amazing thing too, as others have mentioned, is the fact families return year after year and meet up with other families who stay each year. All the guests and hotel hosts are super friendly.
We will be back ! (I've attached a photo of myself from 45 years ago, together with one from this stay).

Our room located at the back of the property was disappointing. The noise from daily garbage truck early pick-ups woke us up every morning and the general traffic itself was constant. It has been a long time since a tv set was so old it did not have a remote control (small issue) and the general condition of the rental was shabby, a little worse than Motel 6. The faucet in the bathroom sink was cracked and had clearly been so for a long time. Nasty. The office staff was not particularly friendly but accommodating when pressed. The Breakers clearly has a faithful following and the same people book the same period each year so getting a reservation between November and March is tough. All said, the location (noise excepted) is terrific and the courtyard area around the pool really is nice. And there was always an available lounge chair by the pool which is generally not the case at other facilities.

My brother and I visited Hawaii for the first time. The Breakers sits in the shadows of The Trump, Embassy Suites, and sundry other high rise behemoths that cost thrice as much and aren't nearly as good. It is literally a block from the beach and centrally located to everything mid town Waikiki has to offer in terms of shopping (high end) and restaurants. The rooms are old fashion and have a small kitchen complete with a small fridge, electric stove, and kitchenware. The pool is roomy and there is free coffee all day long. The only real drawback is the limited free parking. There are half a dozen spots and one handicap spot. Staff is friendly and helpful. Lots of Americans, of which we are a minority in this town - not complaining, just making an observation.

Good value older hotel. WiFi a bit weak but staff good, pool very clean and a great location. Also quiet and room service good. Free coffee in the morning. 24 hour staffing of front desk, great for late arrivals.

Absolutely love the Breakers! This is a true hidden gem and experience of the "old Hawaii" charm amongst new high-rise hotels. Ideal location...walk everywhere in Waikiki. Close to great restaurants, shopping, and attractions, yet nestled in a tranquil and relaxing setting just steps from what is probably one of the cleanest pool in all of Waikiki! We've been visiting here for years, and always feel the stress drain from us as we pass through the entrance gate of the Breakers...what could be better than that? Super friendly staff awaits you, and will ensure you enjoy a true vacation experience. Back in the day, the Breakers would send staff out with leis, in outriggers, to greet disembarking passengers from cruise ships. This place is loaded with interesting history!

Room Tip: All rooms just steps from the pool.
