“Noisy and dirty”
Reviewed 24 February 2012

Location was good. Tub was scraped and scratched. Virtually no finish left on it. The towels and bedding were poor quality. The floor was probably not washed for months and all wall and base boards in desparate need of paint and thorough cleaning. The street side was noisy as police and other sireins all night long. Food including groceries are expensive so do yourself a favour and stay in a beach front hotel. It will be the same price.

Room Tip: If you have to stay here pick ocean side only. Do NOT pick 1609

We have being going to the Ilikai for the past three years. We have looked at other places but none of them offered the complete package we were looking for. The Ilikai is in a great location; within walking distance of everything needed for a great vacation. We loved sitting on the lanai over looking the ocean while sipping a glass of wine before dinner.

The hotel is very well kept, the staff are extremely friendly. There are numerous little touches that just make you feel at home. Needless to say we will be back again.

Although we rented a suite at the Ilikai privately, I would reccommend this hotel simply becuase of its location. Being right on the west end of Waikiki beach makes it a fantastic location, location, location! The hotel is coming up on 50 years old but has been very well kept and modernised yet still holds her 60's charm. The staff at the hotel were very helpful whenever we needed any information or assistance. Sorrentinos at the top of the hotel is a very good dining experience with wonderful wait staff.

Our famly of five had a 2 bedroom suite in the hotel-owned part of the Ililkai, on the 24th floor. We were really pleased with our 6 nights there - the suite was spacious, had amazing views of the Hilton Lagoon and out to the ocean. We splashed out on the oceanview room and it didn't disappoint. Two huge lanais with comfortable chairs and tables on each - and the sunset was gorgeous. The second bedroom is only separated from the dining by sliding louvre doors which didn't completely close and we had to keep quiet with our light sleeping children. One of the showers was on the weak side but apart from that the bathroom amenities were up to par. We were provided with a metal crib for our baby but unfortunately no bedding - we called and they gave us a pillow and king sized blanket so I would recommend taking your own - other hotels have always supplied sheets and blankets in the past. The only thing the kitchen was missing was an electric kettle, we had to boil water in a pan to make a cup of tea each morning. As for the hotel - they were helpful (apart from the 8.20am call on our first morning after an 8 hour flight - just to tell us we had a welcome pack waiting to be delivered, gee thanks for that) and when we had a problem with a leaking a/c making the carpet soaking wet, we had housekeeping arrive and remedy the problem within 15 minutes. The shop downstairs had most grocery items (except for swim diapers) and while we didn't dine in for any meals, the restaurant seemed to have a good range on the menu. My only complaint was regarding the pool - the attendant was a complete killjoy and stopped my husband from lifting our 4 year old into the air and making a little splash. No toys allowed either! Heaven forbid we actually had FUN!! The pool area is about to be upgraded but its fairly cosmetic - a few plans, new tiles, a pergola, etc. Really they need to have a separate kids pool so the grumpy people can stick to their own area and not send evil glances our way. As for the location, the Ilikai was ideal for local shops, the Hilton restaurants, the lagoon and breakfast/lunch outlets. Our favourite was the Wailana Coffee Lounge across from the Hilton which was sooo cheap, quick and the food was excellent. I would recommend that the owners of the Ilikai do something about the exterior of the building - rusty, green, peeling. Really tired-looking. We would definitely return to the Ilikai, it was good value for money.

We stayed in an owner owned unit for 3 weeks. It was our second say in the same unit in 14 months. Great location, close to beaches, great oceans views from the beach side of the hotel. Close to public transportation, you don't need a rental car if staying here. Close to shopping, just far enough away from busy area to not be in the rush. The unit we were in has been updated and very comfortable. Bascially our transaction was with a rental company and we had no direct dealings with the hotel itself, other than use of the outdoor pool. Recommend the unit we were in for a couple.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the ocean side of the towers. Ones overlooking the yachet club are quieter.

This hotel/ condo is in a great location. Just a short walk tonthe wonderful Waikiki Beach.new stayed on the 3rd floor but had a great view of the ocean and the Hilton Hawaii Village lagoon. Loved the full kitchen and the lanai. We will stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for upper floors with ocean view for the best time ever!

Okay, so I read the reviews and talked to reservation rep who told me the hotel was recently renovated, has large 2bd/2ba room with kitchenette, ocean and lagoon views. Sounds great right? Wrong!
First of all when my family and I pulled up, my teens said,"Mom is this a motel?", "What made you book this place?" I told them, "well look, the sign in front says newly renovated rooms, so maybe they didn't get to the outside yet. The reviews were all positive, and the reservation lady told me we will really be happy and enjoy this hotel." Well, first of all, they pre-charged our credit card for the first night, normal, but when we arrived they placed a $300 hold on our card for room security. I'm thinking this must be some kind of renovated room and it just has to be great. Well, on the way to room noticed all the old doors, walked in room to find.....old white fridge like one I grew up with. Old dirty, filthy white microwave, old cabinets, new counter top; old carpet; wall paper peeling off wall over one of the beds in first room; bathrooms have new counter tops with old tubs; bed old; very old sliding doors that lead to very old balcony with ocean and lagoon views. New t.v. with poor picture quality in living room and 2nd bedroom. I stayed up all night researching online for another hotel. Checked out the next morning, and front desk person asked my husband was everyone out the room, he said, yes, and then he was told they will complete the check-out and take $300 hold off card once they check the room and make sure everything is ok, so please have a seat and we will call you back to counter when clear. WOW! What the heck! Were there hidden diamonds and gold in the room that I missed? Was that old lamp an antique worth thousands? Incredible, anyway, we drove right over to The Kahala Hotel & Resort (review to follow) a true diamond and pot of gold on the island for the remainder of our 5 day stay. Pay & stay at your own risk! Don't waste your time and money. The valet parking attendant told us the original Hawaii Five O, was filmed at the Ilikai. That explains it all, it's still in it's original Hawaii Five O condition.

Room Tip: Don't choose any!
