It's hard to find all around solid big menu Japanese restaurants like this anywhere on earth anymore, including Japan. So count yourself lucky to find one this good and reasonably priced in expensive Wakiki.

Various combo meal packages gently push you towards some variant of a bento box and the various mini courses that accompany everything are well thought out and executed.

Whether it's a charasi box or the much hyped butterfish (great, but not ga-ga great like people go on and on about here), everything is prepared with great care -and speed; be prepared to have your food practically flying out of the kitchen in record time. Sake's are very well priced and your server adds a lot of value in helping you select the right one. Service is as if by an old friend.

If you're looking for coconut shrimp or an american style sushi roll with 8 ingredients, don't bother. If you want to feel like you slipped into a Kyoto izakya (99.99% Japanese clientele) circa 1986, come and savor.

The oysters (4 for $15) were decent, given that they've come a long way. The home made green tea ice-cream is as good as at a 5* restaurant.

Japanese food is common in hawaii but having an authentic experience is quite difficult to find. Yoshitsune has been in business for over 25 year. Been going here since I was a kid. It has a very homey feel and the food is amazing. I suggest the butterfish teishoku for it comes with a bunch appetizers like soup, tofu, salad, and pickled vegi. The miso butterfish is phenomenal. Tender and bursting with flavor. The skin is the best part for me. High in omega 3 and calogen. Yummy yummy yummy.

Wife and I tried this restaurant not having gone to other Japanese restaraunts. The atmosphere was good. I tried the teriyaki chicken. Wife had the coconut shrimp. The shrimp was good. Teriyaki chicken was average. All the other sides were not good for us. Vanilla ice cream for desert was good. Go to this place only if you like Japanese food.

If you are really into good Japanese food and not so much for scenery or décor, Yoshitsune is the place in Waikiki. It has been there at Park Shore Hotel across from the zoo for a very long time... Yes, the store décor is rather out-dated and no scenery at all located way inside the building. This quaint restaurant with seasoned waitresses serves really good Japanese food. Two of us had their sushi (tsuru type, $28) and one had their special gozen lunch box with tempura, sashimi, broiled salmon and other goodies ($28) for lunch. Everyone enjoyed.

The concierge recommend this place . Located inside the Park Shore hotel , near the end of the Waikiki main drag . We have Eleven of us , 6 adults and five kids for dinner. I decided to check this place in early afternoon and preorder the dinner , I am glad I did , the restaurent kind of hiding in the back of the hotel lobby and a bit tight . The people very nice , however, some difficulty in communication in English , took me 30 min to get all the orders set up. . We arrived at 6 pm , we have a mixture of cooked and raw food. . The sashimi of hamachi , fatty Ahi , salmon very fresh and good . Miso cod , grilled squid , steam egg , tempura , ugo all decent. We ordered sukiyaki to share , the beef was not cut as thin and rye sauce too sweet ( Kyoto Style ) . The service was a bit slow ,lucky we preordered the food. A place to come back with a smaller party may be better
