“great location, just average rooms!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 May 2012

We chose the hotel for the location, near shopping and near the ala moana beach park which is lovely. But everything that could went wrong, the faucet broke and water sprayed all over the bathroom. I did call to have it fixed and then I needed to call to have it cleaned up! Later that day , upon returning from dinner the lights were not working. I called the desk and somebody came to fix it, he was there 30 minutes until 10:30 and we really wanted to go to sleep.
When I mentioned this at the desk in the morning , they gave us $20 discount, big deal! They did not seem to apologetic and I think it really ruined the stay! We will probably try another place next time. It is just too impersonal, and without much aloha!

There are only two reasons to stay in Honolulu or Waikiki: (a) you love horrible traffic, tourist traps and hordes of people; or (b) you are there for a conference and have no choice. I fell into the latter category. The Ala Moana Hotel is fine for a conference hotel, no complaints about anything, but nothing special. Very average. You can check out towels by the pool to take the beach (about a 10 minute walk). We stayed in the Waikiki Tower and had a microwave, coffee maker and good size mini-fridge that was empty (not filled with overpriced snacks and booze). The hotel is adjacent to the Ala Moana Shopping Center and it is easy to stop by the grocery store or food court for breakfast, lunch or snack items. Bring some plastic cutlery from home. It is also easy to catch the bus to just about anywhere you want to go. The bus website (www.thebus.org) is great as it gives you the stop number to let you know you are waiting at the right place! $2.50 for adult or get a 4-day pass for $25. Warning – the buses can get pretty full. We took the bus to Pearl Harbor (a must see), Waikiki and Diamond Head Crater. On Wednesdays from 4-7pm is a farmer’s market at the Blaisdell Center on Ward Street. About a 20-25 minute walk or catch a bus. If you walk, take Kapiolani Street, it has nice shade trees for most of the way. Great oven fired pizza, fresh bread, ginger tea, other food items, fresh fruit and veggies. Pan flute players. Check out the ticket booth while at Blaisdell to see what shows are in town. There is also a farmer’s market in the Ala Moana Center 2nd level parking area by Sears on Saturdays from 8-12. This one had a great selection for exotic fruit including rambutans, sapote, mangosteins and some stuff I have never seen before. There is also a big farmer’s market by the Crater on Saturdays, but did not have time to visit that one.

We were on the 31st floor in an oceanfront room, which was dated and the bed wasn't great, but if you're in Honolulu to shop, you can't beat the location! I thought it was good value for money for what it was.

The hotel is located near a large shopping center and has a nice conference center. The hotel itself is just average. The bathroom was disappointing. The tub and sink counter caulk was discolored(?mold). Hotel front desk was unwilling to provide a courtesy check out of 1 hour delay. Price is good. Hotel restaurant is a bit pricey.

The room was very small with a parking lot view. Bed is horrible, definitely not a $200 hotel per night, maybe if you pay $90 it will be a fair price, and this is not a hotel anymore it is a condominium / hotel so each room has an different owner, witch mean the quality of the rooms are very low. The kona tower rooms are horrible and if you have 2 bag you will not fit because it is super small, very old and smely, the wakiki tower room are a bit bigger but still as crapy as the other tower. This hotel is way over price and over rated, dont let the whole hawaii fever fool you. We got the breakfast buffet in the hotel, let me warn you not to waste your money, it was by far the worst breakfast I have ever had. Everything was cold, for french toast they gave you bread to put into a toaster.
The hotel was pricey and a big disappointment, I would not return

Stayed here for a couple of nights - great location as it is just across the Ala Moana Mall. Clean, comfortable, quiet. A little busy at the lobby reception with lots of tour groups lining up, but will definitely stay here again on my next trip to HNL.

We arrived on Easter Sunday and were glad that the excellent sushi restaurant on the Lobby level was open. The next day we wandered over to the Ala Moana Shopping Mall before our flight to the outer islands. It is barely 20 minutes to the airport, our room was clean and quiet.
