At first was a bit concerned about the location being too crowded; however, was close enough to the action, yet far enough from the city insanity since it's at the end of the strip. The breakfast was terrific, and the view of the ocean was fantastic. Word of advice: careful of the Diamond Head side floors greater than 22, as you'll get the sound of the fans from the top of the neighbouring hotel.

Room Tip: Careful of the Diamond Head side floors greater than 22, as you'll get the sound of the fans from the top of the neighbouring hotel.

We visited Oahu in April of 2011. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel. Very comfortable bed, courteous staff and wonderful view - oceanfront. We were able to take full advantage of this part of Oahu with the oceanfront room as there are lots of water activity to see from the lanai.

There are several places to enjoy within walking distance from the Hotel . . . a Burger King on thre corner, an ABC Store a block away - they have a lot of item you may have forgotten to bring such as flip flops, sun lotion and sun glasses as well as snacks for your soft cooler (complimentary of the Hotel) and small gifts to tke back home (Island soaps and lotions, etc). There is also a zoo close to the Hotel - walking distance.

Aston puts out a VERY nice complementary breakfast with lots of menu choices. This really helps out when you are heading out for a day of sight-seeing.

In the evening we enjoyed music at Tiki's Grill & Bar - part of Aston Hotel. We actually first heard the music as we walked the beach. It really set the atmosphere for us. I don't know if this (music) is their regular practice or if it is just on weekends as we were there on Fri and Sat nights. Sunday morning we also enjoyed entertainment by a man with a guitar and a girl that did hula. This musical treat was offered by the pool where we were enjoying a leisurely breakfast. The music really rounded out our visit at Aston and we would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: If you are enjoying Hawaii for the first time, make it a priority to get an oceanfront room.

We stayed in an oceanfront room on the 18th floor for 3 nights in 2/12 with 2 adults and 2 kids. The view was outstanding, we enjoyed the free breakfasts (even taking some for snacks later) of fruit, cereal, yogurt, pastries and beverages, and the location was great to get to attractions and good swimming beaches. Considering this was an affordable option the things that weren't perfect weren't a real suprise. Although the room has been updated with nice beds, we could tell the bathroom was not updated. Our tub didn't train very well probably due to sand. The hairdryer scared me with it's noise, but the staff brought me a new one within a few minutes. There was also a real treat of a bartender in the Tiki bar who seemed to resent that people actually wanted drinks during happy hour and tried to convince my husband that she couldn't sell him a drink for me without seeing me first, although he had done this 2 times prior and I was about 20 feet away sitting by the pool.
All this was really made up by how much we enjoyed our view, secure and easy elevator system, great location, helpful staff, enjoyable pool deck/bar area and comfortable beds. Really, we'd probably stay there again because of cost and we left really with only good memories.

Room Tip: Oceanfront view is incredible

We stayed here for one week in February. It was a very average experience, nothing really motivates me to come back. The best part of the hotel was by far its location.

For what the hotel offers, the complimentary breakfasts were quite on the unhealthy side. The fruit that was offered rarely seemed fresh, and the other food included pastries and super-sweet yogurt and fruit juices. To have anything prepared, like waffles or omelette, was additional money. We did save money by eating here, but don't make the decision based on this!

Furthermore, during breakfast the pool/eating area was always crowded in the morning, a few times we had to go back to our room to eat. With rain, there are hardly any sheltered tables or other places to eat, and the wind threw litter everywhere. Speaking of which, the breakfast was definitely not eco-friendly with the amount of garbage produced.

Staff was always friendly, no complaints there, except for one day where we got no housecleaning.

And one final comment on some of the secondary fees - local calls are a dollar each, internet and printing was really expensive for what you get (bring your own laptop for the wifi in the pool area), and they had N64, a video game system from 1996, where you could play for an hour for $7. The whole experience, including the breakfast, felt like I stepped back in time to unhealthy foods and relatively more expensive calling and internet. I believe this is changing, however, as the hotel will start charging more per night (starting in March) for amenities not offered when we went.

I personally wouldn't go back to this hotel. The location is unrivalled, but I feel everything else could be done better. I'd pay more for more services at another hotel in Waikiki, or, find a location away from the hustle and bustle of the area.

Room Tip: I think any room would be noisy with the balcony door open. We had partial ocean view and it turned out to be a decent view of Waikiki Beach.

We stayed at the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel from 2/16/12 through 2/23/12 and found the level of service provided to be inconsistent and in some cases, lacking in what would be expected from a property of this stature. The housekeeping and bell staffs were outstanding in all instances - polite, helpful and friendly. The complete opposite must be said about the front desk personnel. In the four instances I sought assistance from the front desk, at best they were on all occasions, indifferent. For the most part, I found them difficult and almost to the point of being rude and unable to provide answers to basic questions - either a lack of training or personal in difference. In one instance, I happened to be walking through the property next door shortly after being snubbed at the Aston and asked the desk there the same question and she took the time to compleely answer my inquiry - and was not even a guest. Cudos for them. I will not stay at the Aston again - too many properties with friendlier staffs.

Room Tip: The rooms (full ocean view) are small but OK.
