We stayed at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge during a family trip to Yellowstone in September 2010. The lodge is very centrally located, just across a parking lot area from the Old Faithful Inn, the new Old Faithful Visitor's Center, and the upper geyser basin.

The hotel is extremely clean and very quiet. We had two rooms on the side of the hotel overlooking the new visitors center -- and while we didn't have a direct geyser view, we could see it erupting behind the visitors center. (We had buffalo wandering through the parking lot in between the Snow Lodge and the Old Faithful Inn so be on the lookout for wildlife!)

Each room had 2 comfortable double beds and an extremely clean bathroom with a tub/shower combo. As in all National Park hotels, there is no phone and no television. But we had excellent iPhone reception there -- a surprise in the middle of a National Park! There was a Keurig coffee/tea maker in each room as well as a provided hair dryer and toiletries (including really cute bear shaped soaps!)

The hotel lobby is stunning with high beamed ceilings. There are several common areas with comfy sofas and chairs to relax in front of the fire after a long day of visiting the park. The hotel has porters to help guests to their rooms with luggage. The front desk staff is very friendly and helpful and knowledgeable about the park. Geyser eruption times are posted behind the front desk.

Attached to the Snow Lodge is the Obsidian dining room, which has really nice steak dinners in the evenings, and a good buffet breakfast. They will also pack tasty sack lunches for you to take along with you for your daily excursions/hikes -- highly recommended since food is few and far between in the park! Also attached to the Snow Lodge is a gas station, a souvenir/grocery store, an ice cream shop, a gift shop, and the Geyser Grill which serves pretty tasty fast food items mid-day.

We were very pleased with our stay at the Snow Lodge and highly recommend it as a clean and comfortable place to stay in Yellowstone.

This was my 4th visit toYellowstone, but first in the winter. It was spectacular. We took the "Trail of the Wolf" snowmobile adventure which started and ended at the Snow Lodge. We added an extra night at the Snow Lodge because we did not want to leave, We are planning to go back next winter.
Had a wonderful massage after 2 days on the snowmobile.

The Old Faithful Snow Lodge is the perfect place to stay if you visit Yellowstone in the winter. They''ve thought of everything to make your stay enjoyable. We appreciated the fact that there was no television and no "piped in" music. The rooms were clean and simple and cozy. The common areas were designed for relaxation with comfy sofas and chairs in front of the fireplaces and lots of places to just sit and look at the beautiful scenery. The staff at the reception desk were very friendly and helpful. We took a day tour in one of the snow coaches and it was a wonderful experience. The drivers were very knowledgeable about the park, which made the trip even better. Yellowstone Park in the winter is a wonderful trip and the Old Faithful Snow Lodge makes it even better.

Location location location. Yes, it's a wee bit expensive, but if you think of it as paying the first $100 each night just for the amazing location, it's easier to swallow...

Our room was very charming and cozy, with updated furnishings, including what looked like a brand new sink/faucet, mirror, etc. It was very clean and extremely quiet. We had 2 beds, so there was plenty of space. We hadn't brought our laptops, because we didn't know they now offer WIFI (and because we went to escape all that!). There is no tv nor radio in the room, but knowing that going in made it just fine. We read, played cards in the bar downstairs, and spent more time outside and at the visitor center consequently. As it should be when staying in a national park!

The only problem we had was in trying to adjust the heat in our room. Even though it appears as though you can change it, it took hours and hours to go from 65 to 68 degrees. We had a maintenance guy come to the room and he just said it's really slow because it's an old system that heats by water...Fortunately, the room had a bathtub, so I took a nice bath each day after skiing or snowshoeing to warm up!

The charming lodge has lots of great "common areas" for folks to gather. We loved seeing groups of families and friends playing cards, or putting together a jigsaw puzzle, or gathered around a table full of snacks & wine they'd brought...

And you can't beat the views...out every window is the beautiful Old Faithful area of Yellowstone. Because we were there in the winter, the bison outnumbered people, and the snow was high up on the lodge windows...

We stayed at both Mammoth and Old Faithful during the Trail of the Wolf tour. In contrast to the Mammoth hotel, the Snow Lodge at Old Faithful is great. The rooms are modern, the facility is great, and the service was great.

Only one complaint about the hotel itself: the beds are full/double, which are not very roomy for two.

The resturant and bar was great and priced was reasonable, especially considering how food has to be delivered (via snowcoach in the winter).

It is difficult to get to, but if you are looking to snowmobile, cross country ski or snowshoe, it is a great location.

We stayed at the Snow Lodge for a week in January.........the setting is stunning.........the snow, the geysers, the wildlife and the scenary when you get out and about all make this a hoilday that we'll always remember.........the Old Snow Lodge is a beautiful building inside and out.........we had breakfast in the restaurant (what ever you order its huge) and didn't encounter anything but friendly staff.....in the evenings, after going to the free ranger talks in the fantastic new vistors centre, we indulged in the real ales and bar meals in the Firehole bar.......we stayed in the cabins which were absolutely fine and don't be put off because despite the very cold weather it was totally part of the fun to make the 200 meter walk back to the snowlodge in the mornings and evenings for food......you can hire snow shoes from the shop they'll also give you a map with the trails and we really recommend strapping the shoes on and taking yourself off on some of the bigger walks outside of the upper basin.......on most of our walks we only encountered bison and coyote and the odd ranger who seemed surprised to see two mad welsh people out walking in the cold and snow..........the snow lodge is pure indulgence with its log fires, great accommodation and good food........outside you can really feel yourself facing the elements and the reward is the most surreal scenary and a real feeling of isolation.....perfect....

We recently completed a trip to Yellowstone in the winter. We flew into Jackson, WY and spent 2 days in Jackson before Yellowstone. Stongly recommend early arrival in case flights are cancelled due to weather. We had 2 flights cancelled in transit. We had Alltran pick us up at our hotel and take us to Flagg Ranch. They were right on time and the trip takes about an hour in a van. At Flagg Ranch we waited about an hour until we loaded up the snow coaches and headed into Yellowstone. Be aware there are several stops for sightseeing on the way so dress for the cold. We had visited during the summer previously and this was totally different. My wife and I stood at Old Faithful alone and watched it erupt. No one else was in sight except about 20 bison. The hotel was clean, the rooms warm and quite adequate. Cell phone service is available and Wifi is available in your room for a fee. The restaurant food was very good and reasonably priced. Be aware the Geyser Grill was only open for lunch while we were there. If taking afternoon and evening tours time can be close when eating in the dining room. It is recommended you arrive for breakfast at 7:00 AM if taking a morning tour. The first morning we did and they had a buffet. The second morning we went a little later expecting the buffet but it was not available. Our server did a great job getting us out quickly. We were told the buffet is only available if the hotel is 85% full. They do not make you aware of this when you check in. The staff and tour guides were exceptional.
Check in and check out was quick, simple, and well organized. All our tour tickets were in an envelope and correct. The person checking us in took all the time needed to make sure we knew what was available. We took 3 tours (Firehole Basin, Nightime, and the canyon tour). Strongly recommend all 3. Our return to Flagg Ranch was on time. Overall the service and experience exceeded our expectations.
