Old Faithful Snow Lodge and Cabins

We stayed for 2 nights in a room at Old Faithful Snow Lodge, in the lodge, and it's nice for Yellowstone, but nothing like what you would normally expect for a $220 room. The worst part was I got bitten a bunch of times by bedbugs on the ear, neck, head, shoulder, and chin. Yikes. Very emotionally unpleasant.

Newest lodging in Yellowstone, had everything we could have wanted and more. The room was large, clean and the beds were comfortable. The location within the Old Faithful complex and proximity to the geyser was perfect. The only thing that would have been better would have been if Old Faithful would have been more centrally located within the park :).

We had so much fun the kids didn't even miss the TV!

Yellowstone is a fantastic place but I think we just were there at the wrong time. Hotel is ok - new modern and clean. It is a 3 star motel type place. Room was ok but with a tiny window?!! Why? Could hear everything from adjoing rooms. Left after one night. Had to queue for everything. Far too busy and overpriced. Not a very pleasant experience.

If you can get a reservation here I am convinced it is the best location in the park. This is a modern hotel located near Old Faithful. The rooms are nice (although no queen size beds). The parking is a little confusing since there is not much located right at the hotel. You have a choice of eating at any of the dining in the old faithful area. We enjoyed our stay even though it snowed 6" on June 7th!

We recently stayed 2 nights at the Snow Lodge. It was a great location for exploring the lower loop of the park and because we arrived rather late in the afternoon the first night, the lenght of stay was perfect. The rooms are sparse but clean and new. The hotel was quiet despite being completely full and we slept comfortably. The main restaurant in the hotel was reasonably priced and the food relatively good compared to other places we experienced around the park but the service was very slow. There was also a fast food type restaurant that offered basic sandwiches and burgers for a quick and more economical bite and a grocery/gift store around the corner from the hotel. Staying at the Snow Lodge enhanced our Yellowstone experience.

Wow..I was worried after hearing comments just how busy with tourists, the Old Faithful area of the park could be.. that I wouldn't like staying around here.
Prove me wrong...the Snow Lodge was a wonderfully, quiet alternative from the crowds that hang at the historical Old Faithful Lodge, admiring the lobby, catching tours, etc.

Room was very nice, beds very comfy, bathroom really nice with wonderful shower, and warming heat lamp which felt good due to cool temps and 1 snowy nite( in June!!) Great closets, separate sink area. I requested an upper floor at reservation time which was great, 2 beds..one for the teen. Not much of a view, but the NP accommodations are low impact so that is not a priority.
(Only complaint I must say, was we could hear the neighbor snoring next door one of our nites!)
After being on the Circle of Fire tour which stops at The Lake Yellowstone Lodge and Canyon Lodges for a break and a lunch stop, I was unimpressed with thier resorts...
The lobby was delightfully quiet, with a gas fireplace with several chairs in front of it (which I sat by several times relaxing and reading the daily Park paper, and talking with other guests getting: animal sightings, hiking, sharing tour info! )
There were also several sofa seating areas in the lobby and along the glass walled approach to the hotel restaurant, Obsidian Dining Room.
We ate all our breakfasts there and several dinners as well. Excellent staff..wonderful to talk to.. all folks from college students to retirees here for the summer!! Good food..my husband had their Huckleberry Pancakes every morning!! Ate one dinner at famous Old Faithful Dining Room and the meal was fine, great staff lovely room, but we preferred our lodge's dining room.
One evening we meandered up to the Roosevelt Cabins and went on the cowboy Cookout. What a wonderful delight that would have been if it wasn't so-o cold and rainy. The staff was wonderful, rode out in wagons and got to see a pair of grizzly bears, great steak dinner and cowboy coffee on the fire!
We reserved one of the Parks Getaway packages that included breakfast, Circle of Fire Tour and rooms. We stayed based here at the Snow Lodge and went out touring daily. Several folks we talked too said they changed locations throughout thier stay, I enjoyed unpacking 1 time, for the 4 days we were there.
No Internet access for teens, but upon returning to the hotel each evening...cell service!! So texting could occur and that made the teen most happy!

If you truely want to experience the wonders of the Geyser basin I would highly recommend spending at least one night near Old Faithful. And, theSnow Lodge is a fine choice.
Yes, the rooms are simple (and my wife was't too happy without TV or radio in the room) but after a long day driving/wondering around the area neither of us had much trouble falling asleep. The beds were comfortable and the front desk personnel very friendly.
With only one small window in the room I could imagine not having an air conditioner could be a problem if the weather were hotter. But, for mid-June with temperatures only in the 60's it was fine.
As for the price ($200 + tax), rooms in West Yellowstone were going for about the same, a few cheaper ones at $170-180. But for me, wildlife viewing is best right around dusk - we saw some amazing sites just as the sun was going down.
The restaurant in the lodge was pretty good and reasonably priced, both for dinner and breakfast.
You wouldn;t have to stay in the park every night. But, I woudl highly recommend at least one.
Also, rooms are hard to come by during high season. But, if you don't happen to have a room for the night, just ask at any of the lodges. They get some last minute cancellations and every lodge is supposed to be aware of opennings throughout the park.
