We spent four nights and five days in Yellowstone recently and stayed in the Old Faithful Inn. This is the original inn and was nicely maintained. The common lobby area was unbelievable and in its original design. The room was small, but very nice and had a private bathroom. The dinning room at the OF Inn was great, and the staff was fantastic with of our many dinning experience. You are literally in front of Old Faithful Geyser and can see it spout every 90 minutes or so. There is a very nice three mile walk on a boardwalk in the immediate area with over a 100 additional geysers to view. We took two tours while staying at Yellowstone. The Yellowstone in a Day tour was great. Our driver, Jackie, was the best! The only down side was that the evenings in the commons area of the lobby got very noisy. This may have been due to the large youth group that was staying there though. We would go back again and stay at this property.

We recently spent four nights in a queen geyserside room at the Old Faithful Inn. While not luxurious, the room was well appointed and very comfortable and included robes and in-room coffee service. We appreciated that our request for a 3rd floor room was honored and that we had such wonderful views of Old Faithful erupting. The only negative was a lack of both WiFi AND cell phone service. I was told by the hotel manager that the National Park Service was responsible for the current lack of phone service which is due to a recent carrier switch. She also stated the Inn cannot install WiFi due to its historic nature, however we recently visited Glacier NP and stayed at Many Glacier Hotel (also a historic hotel) and WiFi was available there. And while I am not technology dependent, internet access would have been very helpful to determine mileage from one place to another, restaurant menus, etc.

We stayed in the new section of this hotel with Caravan tours. We were immediately struck by the beauty of the hotel design. We were treated to an interesting tour of the hotel by our Caravan guide which helped us to appreciate the history of the hotel and the antiques in it. Our room was small but functional. The location is wonderful with Old Faithful and many other thermal features nearby. Don't miss Riverside Falls when it erupts on a sunny day to see the rainbow through the geyser. Staying at this property should be on your bucket list.

I wish we stayed here for more than 2 nights, even the kids said this. We are on a budget, and reserved one of the rooms without a bathroom (reservations made a year in advance). The tiled and fairly clean b-room was just a couple of doors away, no problem. They provide bathrobes (cute). It is a gorgeous and historic Inn, I have visited Yellowstone several times but this time had 2 kids, we loved it. Breakfast and dinners were out in the very back of the parking lot of Old Faithful Lodge (the building near Old Faithful Inn). Back there, there were picnic tables and a bear-proof trash container. We made our own breakfast and dinners, and other families were back there doing the same...those picnic tables were hard to find.. saving some money helps with my budget. We had to keep our cooler in the car, this is the Inn's request but I saw some families bringing in their coolers. It was not a big problem to keep it in our car. The rooms were very pretty, comfy, large windows, we were on 3rd floor in the older part (ask for this- its pretty), the room had 2 queen beds, a sink that looked like an antique, very pretty...one dresser, and desk. The lights in the room were NOT bright, but no one cared. you can really get around to see a good part of Yellowstone sites from here- the springs, geysers, Hayden Valley. I wish we made reservations for 4 nights, it felt like home. The lobby gets busy w tourists, but after our check-in, we didn't spend much time in the lobby. They will do tours for you, and the second floor had an open deck to observe Old Faithful erupt, and share a soda or beer. People were playing cards out on the deck, too. We brought out own plastic glass of wine- no one cared, and others did the same (drinks were a little spendy for us but one night we splurged). At some of the valley overlooks I notice one tour group called yellowstone association (in a white smaller bus) and overheard their tour guide. He sounded very well-informed on the animals, even a golden eagle nest which we didn't see earlier (and my partner and I, and a visiting friend, are all very experienced birdwatchers). i might sign up for that next time, they will pick you up at the Inn.

Room Tip: Our 3rd floor room was in the old part facing the front of the Inn, we could see some of the folks f...

We stayed 2 nights in Old House rooms. I was not looking forward to sharing the bathroom but it was not a problem. The bathrooms were right down the hall and were very clean and modern(we are used to state park campground bathrooms). Bathrobes are provided for those late night/early morning trips and there are sinks in the rooms. One of our rooms (corner) looked out over Old Faithful- the same view as from the observation deck. We were there the last week in June and it was very hot but fans are provided and helped a lot. We all absolutely loved sitting out on the balcony in the evenings reading and listening to the piano. Bring a book light as none of the hotels in the park have good bedside lighting. We ate in the dining room for breakfast and dinner and the food was good. The free tour was well worth doing. I loved walking around the geyser basin at dusk listening to coyotes in the distance and almost ran into a bison! Everyone should stay here once. The Old House rooms are very reasonably priced. Everyone we dealt with at the inn was friendly and accommodating.

Stayed one night in the Old Faithful Inn. It is dated but comfortable. It is nostalgic lodging so be prepared that it doesn't look new. The beds were good and the windows large for views and great breeze. Take the tour of the Inn. Stay at least one night to experience the history of the old
Faithful Inn. We were glad that we stayed, you can watch Old Faithful Erupt from the deck on the second level of the hotel.

I had very low expectations for this hotel, in fact I was dreading staying there based on experiences I heard about. I was pleasantly surprised that it was clean and quiet and everything worked. Very expensive for a basic motel type room, but face it, you are paying for the location and the view, and what you get is a mid-to-low level room and private bath at about twice what it would cost outside of a national park.
The lobby is amazing and the food was also better than I expected it to be. Not great, but pretty good. If you don't stay there, make sure you stop by and see the lobby. Take a free guided tour if you have time--very worthwhile to hear about the architectural details.
