Owner description: A good place for hiking to get away from the crowds.

THis is the starting point for many paths and cross terrain hikes. Sometimes crowded but fun to see serious hikers and climbers at the store. More to do than ever suspected if you are into geology and hiking.

A great spot to hike, if you're in shape --- the altitude can really clobber you if you aren't --- but even if you're in the mood just for a stroll, the scenery is so so beautiful.

The terrain of Yosemite can best be appreciated by going up to Tuolumne Meadows. As a 'high plain' it isn't accessible until later in the season but the rock formations, the huge slabs of granite juxtiposed against the blue skies, the animal life not present in such abundance down below all make it quite the contrast to the verdant (and crowded) Valley. If you can, CAMP up here to truly appreciate its serenity, or at least get out and amble. It is so very blissfully quiet!
