5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2012

Room number 2059(denver and levina) I took my wife on our honeymoon to Tamassa and wow what a great time we had. We went on the 12-18 april for a week. All inclusive package was worth every penny. The staff are friendly and you never short of anything. The restaurants were great and the main bar was superb,gr8 staff. The band every night didn't disappoint, entertainment never stopped. Words just can't explain what we experienced and we'll definitely be back to Tamassa. Simply amazing. Thank you Tamassa for making this a memorable one.

It was a beautiful hotel, it looked lovely from the main lobby, the gardens were well kept, the staff were helpful and friendly but it just lacked something in the atmosphere although we couldn't really say what.

The rooms were lovely, very attractively decorated but we had booked off an old brochure before the re branding, so we didn't receive the size of room that we expected, the manager offered to move us but we were unpacked and didn't care enough to repack and move. We liked the bathroom style and it had a double sink, bath and shower.

There were 3 big pools that were very attractive and there were lots of sun loungers both around the pools and by the sea. The bar staff were quite attentive down by the sea and there was a great service there. The water sports were a bit of a let down at the beach as the lagoon beside the hotel is very shallow most of the time and it's full of coral so you can go and have a dip but you can't really go sailing or wind surfing or do water sports properly. The water sports centre seems quite keen to sell their paid booze cruises! There is supposed to be a leaflet left into your room with the activities available for the day but no matter how much we asked, it was a rare occasion that we managed to get the leaflet. They had yoga on some mornings but it was over by the time they leaflet was left into your room so I went to it twice and was the only person there - both times, although the hotel was full at the time! We used the tennis courts often and they were good and floodlit.

The buffet food is reasonable, there is something for everyone but it really wasn't replenished often enough at busy times and there were birds constantly flying in and trying to pick at the food - that was a bit off putting. The show restaurant was very good but as the hotel was full when we were there, you had to book it 2/3 days in advance which is a bit of a drag..

They had entertainment at night with live singers, dancers and discos which did generate a relaxed positive atmosphere.

Been here three days now

Room
Looks lovely when you first walk in, curtains very dirty mould at bottom and sides, bedside cabinet broke can't use it has fallen out of casing twice.
Bathroom lovely.

Bar service.
At bars excellent.
We have a room down by the boat house, no bars to get a drink ourselves, there are supposed to be service by beach and pool to order drinks, have to get drinks from mini bar in room. Did complain yesterday so 3 waiters appeared, been by boat house all day again no service at all, find this a big let down as we have been to many carribean islands and have always excellent service and really expected the same here, is the the same in all Indian ocean hotels.

Food
Not bad but only Luke warm and very limited.

Staff
Staff are on the whole very nice and will try to please.

Will keep updating as we are here, any questions please ask.

My Family have just returned from a wonderful 7 days at Tamassa. What a Beautiful hotel with fantastic smiling friendly staff. From the minute of our arrival we were treated superbly and we were greeted with a cold mango drink and refreshing face towells. Our rooms were spacious , clean and easy walking distance to all facilities. We were in 1028 and 1029. The infinity pools were amazing. The back drop of the hotel was towards the mountains and close to Sugar Cane Plantations and to the front , out to the beautiful clear waters of the Indian Ocean. The sea was great to explore and very safe, albeit essential to wear plastic shoes just in case. The kids used the Kayaks and Pedloes, there were regular snorkelling trips and coral reef viewing trips from the beach. (just go to boat house and book). Everything is included if you are on the all inclusive package.Food in the main show restaurant was excellent at any time of the day. We did however prefer the Playa restaurant , which you needed to book for the evening (and do so on your arrival). Only that it was nice to be served at the table. Their is an All inclusive set menu choice, which was super. If you wish and prefer to pay extra from the a la carte menu, then you can do so. The Playa restaurant at lunch was even better. Never had to book for this, if a seat is available just go and sit down and you will be served at your table, The Playa bar was also our favourite place to have a drink, very cosy and right on the beach. The waiter Runga was fabulous, his beaming smile met us everytime we arrived. The service was quick the advice he gave was first class. An absolute credit to his hotel. We booked a private taxi for the family for the day. Book it at reception, much cheaper.. Approx cost 2800 rupees (about £56) We were picked up at 9 on our designated day, the hotel provided the four in our party a boxed packed lunch each. The driver took us to whereever we wanted to go. Before hand we spoke to Runga and a few other hotel staff who told us for a day trip the best places to go and see. And their advice was spot on. Our driver spoke very good English. He got us back to the hotel about 6.. In those 9 hours, we went to many of the places of interest, Le Monde Beach, Chammarel Coloured Sands and Waterfall, Chammarel Rum Factory, Black River Gorges National Park, The Sacred Lake, Shopping in Floreal and Curepipe. (Factory outlets and shopping generally much cheaper and less crowded than Port Louis). We went to Gris Gris beach and even a supermarket to pick up some spices etc before we arrived back at the hotel. It was a great opportunity to see a lot of the Tropical South West corner of the island. It was brilliant value for money. I told some other guests about it and they were very appreciative, they had been quoted 7800 rupees by their travel rep for this excursion. They declined their travel companys excursion and paid the amount we had and booked directly with reception like we did. Let the reception book the private taxi ,and you just pay the driver at the end of your day (easy) Also we went on Baboos boat from the beach turn right 100 yards or so (Blue Boat with Baboo on it)..Go about 7.30 in morning to book him up for later in your stay. You wont be dissapointed, 10 mins in to our trip the kids were swimming amongst a pod of spinnaker dolphins. Outstanding..Baboo took us to a lagoon for some snorkelling, where the kids picked up puffer fish and saw clown fish etc etc. A great experience Cost about 2000 rupees each. But we did have the whole boat for ourselves. There is not enough space for me to tell you of the wonderful time we had in Mauritius. That was made possible by the hotel and staff members of Tamassa. and the friendly smiling locals of the island. Me and my wife will be coming back next year. And i will be choosing Tamassa again. So expect a call soon Tamassa..
Just a little note about AIr Mauritius and the comments given on other peoples reviews. I flew Virgin to South Africa for a break out their before i went to Mauritius. The Virgin flight was awful , cramped and terrible service and not very good to be honest. We flew from Johannesburg to Mauritius (4 hours) on Air Mauritius and we all mentioned it had been our best flight and best service we have ever had. When we flew home from Mauritius to Heathrow on Air Mauritius , likewise it was brilliant. So horses for courses i suppose. Me going to Mauritius i would sit on a wing if it would get me there !! Coming home, well it would have to be first class or im staying !!

We have just returned from a week at the Tamassa which I booked as a surprise for my husbands 65th birthday. We had the most wonderful time, we had our room upgraded which was amazing. The rooms are very spacious and modern, they had a wet room, double sinks, bath and a dressing room. The gardens were beautiful and were very well maintained. The three pools were massive, with plenty of room to sunbathe with no fight for sunbeds. There was also a fantastic spa, with a separate pool, sauna, steamroom and jacuzzi. You can use those facilities even if you were,nt having any treatments.
My husband was given a birthday cake on an evening of my choice, which was a lovely thought. There are two restaurants and I would recommend booking for the Playa as soon as you can, as we had to wait four days to get a table..
You need to be careful if you have booked an All Inclusive package as only some of the drinks in the bars and restaurants and half of the food at the Playa is included, it could be easy to make a mistake.
We booked a private taxi to take us to Port Louis, this was preferable to booking an organized trip as the driver was very informative, and was happy to show us anything we wanted to see.
The only critisism we would have was that our beach towels were only changed once throughout the week, even though we were told on checking on that this should be daily.
We hope to return to Mauritius in the future, but would definitely not fly with Air Mauritius again, the seats were very cramped for the 12 hour flight, we have travelled on budget airlines with more leg room!!!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 2117, which was perfect, near the Beach, Playa Restaurant and Beach Bar and not to...

What an amazing family holiday (8 April -16 April 2012), we have stayed at La Pirogue a couple of times but their prices have gone mental and so we looked long and hard to find a suitable substitute for our big family holiday and we were not disappointed. Tamassa was a great choice and has all of the standard features of most 5 star resorts including 3 large swimming pools + 1 small pool situated in the Spa, the kids club was awesome and the friendly staff were always eager to help out with the children. I must give a special mention to Baboo from Team Baboo excursions - our dolphin diving trip was an experience of a lifetime and Baboo & ScubaSteve would not give up until they found a pod of bottle nose dolphins for us to swim with (230) 7381173 - Baboo is also the best kite surfing instructor in Mauritius.

Lunch at the Playa beach bar as well as the breakfast/dinner buffet were of the highest standard and the 24 hour room service came in handy after those long nights at the nightclub. I can not fault Tamassa and will most certainly be back ASAP

We recently returned from a 2 week holiday in March to celebrate my 60th Birthday and couldn't have chosen a better way to celebrate. The hotel was exactly like the photos shown on the net which we were delighted about - no disappointments from start to finish. It really is a beautiful hotel with staff exceptionally helpful and friendly and very clean with lovely well kept grounds .

I was given a birthday cake on a chosen night when we ate at the Playa restaurant where the food was absolutely brilliant and also being vegetarian, the staff were always checking to see that there was something on the menu for me at the Buffet restaurant and suprised me by giving me specially made dishes. Our room was fabulous very big and beautifully decorated (the best we have ever experienced) with a very large bathroom with walk-in shower and separate bath and two handbasins and also a separate dressing area with dressing table. 3 lovely sized swimming pools and right on the beach, plenty of sunbeds (no fighting). We had a day trip by taxi which took us to all the places of interest and had booked 'a walk with lions and tiger'. this was the highlight of our holiday and we would recommend this trip if you like animals, if you do nothing else. All in all an amazing holiday without fault.

We would therefore recommend this hotel very highly for a relaxing holiday with entertainment every evening but would not recommend flying Air Mauritius which wasn't so good.

Well done to all the staff at Tamassa you really do work very hard at making everyone feel so welcome and accommodating individual needs. Thank you for helping to make my birthday so special!
