“Should be named Wanaka Hostel”

Although the location is very good, it's a place that have seen better days. It's difficult to get to the room from the parking lot (which is at a distance), the rooms are small and very simple, no amenities to be seen, and pricey, even being the better priced place we could book for the only night we stayed there! Lots of people walking the corridors, groups gathered outside and in the bigger rooms, it really looked like a hostel.

The location of this hotel is simply awesome, I had a twin room on the 2nd floor of the hotel with a balcony that overlooked the lake, the view alone was worth the price!

The room was spacious, the bed clean and comfortable and the ensuite was a good size with both a shower and bathtub!

I had turned up with short notice in the height of the ski season and they were more than happy to accomodate. The staff at the hotel are friendly and very helpfull, a huge thanks to Jo for all her recommendations and assistance during my stay.

I would definitely recommend this place to others!

When we arrived here I was developing a cold and we ended up having to stay an extra night. They were so helpful! Called up the hotel we'd booked for that night and cancelled and then charged us the same amount as we would have paid there which happened to be $50 cheaper! It was however much more expensive then most of the places we stayed in while travelling around NZ and not much nicer for what we'd paid. It did have a fantastic view though! And was also only a short walk to shops and restaurants.

Room Tip: You want the second level facing the lake!

Our room at the front of the hotel was comfortable but basic. It had a balcony with beautiful views over the lake and was centrally located.

Is it old? Yes
A bit dated? Yes
Charming? Absolutely!

I loved the lobby area and stairs with their floor to ceiling windows and (clearly original) brass and wood finishings. The rooms are definitely not up to date, but we found ours comfortable and for the price and location we thought it was a-ok. Good little balcony facing the lake. And VERY friendly and helpful desk staff, which goes a long way with me.

I have never stayed in a 'Hotel' with so few room amenities. Even the most basic hotels in the poorest countries have coffee making facilities. Our room contained a bed, two towells and a TV! That was it. No shower gel, soap or hair drier or anything else. Information on opening time of restaurant next door was inaccurate - in fact it failed to open the night we got there. The only redeeming feature was the friendly receptionist who seemed to be the only one on duty in the entire place. When the bar was due to open she had to leave reception and hurry across to the lounge to serve us.
I get the impression that this is an establishment in decline that has seen better days. It just about qualifies for the title of 'Hostel' accomodation but in no way should it bear the title of a 'Hotel', nor should it be listed as such on any website.
