Sazani Beach Lodge has THE best beach in Zanzibar. White sands, clean beach, amazing blue ocean....and few other people! Manager Alif provides tips on everything from when to go to the sandbank (incredible experience) to which restaurants are good bets, the least expensive and most reliable taxi service. Not to forget arranging snorkeling/diving for those who want to experience the amazing life under the surface at a nearby atoll. Rooms are impeccably clean, ocean breeze negates any need for A/C (although fans are available when the wind dies down). Staff are not "servants" they are friends. And treated as such by management (if not all clients....). Alif will go out of his way to ensure your every need/desire is met, and the atmosphere is conducive to turning off your laptop (although there IS WiFi at the reception) and heading to a comfortable place on/nearby the beach with relaxing reading material. Or...just your camera. Interesting and interested people pass through Sazani Beach Lodge, so solo travelers will easily find company. Meals are very inexpensive, and if you tire of the daily fare at Sanzani, there are other restaurants within walking distance, or a short taxi ride into town. Please note: this is NOT a ***** hotel, so if you are seeking luxurious accommodation and servant-like staff in stiff uniforms, ready to wait on any and all requests, go elsewhere. You won't have the amazing beach, or the solitude offered by Sazani (for those who wish to keep to themselves), the friendly and fun staff with whom you can joke, exchange music....or whatever. The choice is yours!

Room tip: Ask for 9 if low season. Otherwise, ask for any single bungalow.

Sazani captures everything that makes Zanzibar so special - simplicity, friendliness, natural comfort and most of all individual care for each guest and their needs. Located on a beautifully secluded beach designed around the best of nature, you can't but fall in love with cosy home. The staff take care of you like you're family and share their happiness and commitment with you on every encounter. The only complaint I have is that I couldn't stay longer! Thank you Sazani, I'll be back!

Staying at Sazani was the best decision I have ever made.
Everything was just perfect - the staff, the location, the food (even with vegan options) - the laid-back atmosphere. This whole ambiance took my breath away, right from the beginning.

I got a heartwarming welcome by manager Alif, who made sure everything is perfect - the whole stay. I doubt that you find such a caring, welcoming manager anywhere else. His dedication to his heartpeace - Sazani - is unique.
Right from the start I could feel the magical warmth of this whole place.

I experienced the greatest and most remember-able nights when sitting right next to the sea with a glass of wine while watching the stars, without any light pollution - it is also a perfect spot to get to see some shooting stars.

If you want to have a look at other restaurants or bars, Nungwi Village is a beautiful walk on the beach away, however you can always take a cheap taxi (f.e. when its high-tide).

There are also tons of options for diving, snorkelling, tours and excursions - everyone is happy about providing information and personally assisting you to design your perfect holiday.

All in all - my stay here in Sanzibar would never be like this amazing without staying at Sazani. This sustainable beach lodge feels like home - an experience you never get somewhere else.

Cant wait to come back!

I stayed at Sazani Beach Lodge in October / November 2016. I was in Zanzibar to help with an education development project and first went to Sazani Beach for a weekend break. I ended up going back every weekend during my time in Zanzibar and even booked in for a week of holiday before flying home to the UK.

As a solo traveller it can sometimes be difficult to meet people but the hotel manager, Alif, was very welcoming and introduced me to the other guests and visitors. He even took me out to check out some of the best local restaurants and bars!

The rooms are fairly basic - don't expect luxury living - but they are very comfortable and cleaned everyday. The sheets were always clean and they provided two towels per guest (one for the room and one for the beach) which was great. They even leave complimentary tea outside your room every morning - so relaxing to wake up and sit on your own private terrace listening to the waves and admiring the stunning view with a cuppa!

The bar serves delicious cocktails and the restaurant has a rotating menu everyday so you never get bored. The choices are limited (3 or 4 options each day) but it ensures that the food is always fresh and locally sourced! If there's something you fancy or you have special dietary requirements then just ask the hotel manager and he will make it happen. I requested lobster one night and was served with the biggest and most delicious lobster I've ever had! 10/10 for service and food!

One of my favourite things about this lodge is that they are focused on sustainable and responsible tourism. Unlike many of the other beach front hotels, Sazani Beach Lodge hires more than 90% of its workers from the local community. Despite being one of the most popular island holiday destinations in the world, a large proportion of the local people are living in poverty and it's great to know that Sazani are respecting and contributing to the local community and culture.

The staff are very friendly and do their best to make sure you have everything you need. I had a problem with the water pressure in my shower one day and it got sorted out straight away. You do need to be patient sometimes as some of the staff aren't fluent in English yet, but don't be afraid to chat to them and try out some Swahili :)

Thanks to all the staff at Sazani Beach - I will be coming back very soon!!!!

The hotel pretty quite and nice. Very clean.
We want them to picked us up from the airport. They sent a taxi driver. We paid $50.
The breakfast was so nice. it wasnt included the price. we paid each morning $5.
The internet was only in the lobi. and lobi is fine too.
The hotel is far from the center. But pretty close to Baraka beach and Kungwi Beach.
