A mixed review I'm afraid.
Visited last week of August and the family all enjoyed their pizzas. I can never manage to eat a whole pizza so I went for the Demi pizza with salad which was lovely!
We tried to go again on the Friday but the staff were less than welcoming unfortunately just saying to us "Busy!" Even though there were empty tables!
We won't be coming to Thuir again for some time now as we are exploring new french pastures! Bye bye!

Sorry not to have been able to receive you second time. But, it is not because a table is not occupied that it is necessarily available. It's or customers who reserves a table.

We stopped for lunch, looking for a simple, unpretentious place that might be OK. We struck gold. The pizzas are excellent- we had 2 different types. The service is 1st class and the iles flottant are wonderful. Michelin stars be damned - this is a great little place, highly recommended.

Decided to call in to Thuir for an evening meal on our way back from Le Train Jaune.
Having checked out a few places we chose La Mensa because of its pizza range cooked in a proper oven.
The good points: the waitress and chef were lovely and the food they delivered was also most enjoyable.
The not-so-good points: having sat down it took over 20 minutes to get a drink, another 20 minutes to get the starter; and a full hour before we got the main course of straight forward pizzas.
We decided to cut our losses and have the bill as the evening was going dark.
It seemed that there was too much business for the chef and single waitress to cope with. Rather a pity.

We stayed in the area last year and happened across this lovely little pizzeria, had a superb meal and left with memories of good service. This year, we were on holiday in the Pyrenees Orientale again although not in this neighbourhood. We made the one hour journey from our village to Thuir purely to visit this restaurant again and it was very much worth the drive. We had pizzas which were very reasonably priced and made with very fresh ingredients. They were absolutely delicious! The lovely lady who served us spoke English very well and was very friendly and helpful. There were other delights on the menu besides pizzas, including pastas, fish and steaks, all sounded delicious. We couldn't understand why this little gem of a place was so empty on a Saturday evening? If we find ourselves back in the vicinity for our next holiday we will definitely return to La Mensa no matter what the drive.

After a fantastic fortnight in the Languedoc region (the latter half in a rented villa in nearby Fourques), we didn't feel like cooking on our last night (Fri 20th Sept 2013) so went out for a meal. It was starting to get late so as is common we logged onto TripAdvisor to find local restaurants nearby. Normally I look at the reviews and decide, but this restaurant made me want to sign up to leave my own thoughts on it.

When we arrived we were the only people here, which sometimes makes you wonder if there's something the locals know that you don't! We were seated on a nice little table and given our menus. When in France we like to do our best to speak in French as we feel it's polite when in someone else's country (we are from England by the way). However when we opened our menus we found that we had been given one in French and one in English, which we thought a nice little touch, though not a necessity. I also noted Spanish menus as well. Whilst billed as a Pizzeria, the menu also contains salads, pastas and grilled steak. There is also a selection of wines, spirits and beers on offer. We both opted for the pizza - me the Vesuvio, and my partner a 'create your own' type - and noted that you could have a whole pizza or for slightly less a half-pizza and salad if you didn't want a whole one.We both had full pizzas and didn't regret it! You can also add toppings if you wish a little customisation. The pizzas had a lovely base and very tasty, fresh toppings - the accompanying bottle of pizza sauce is also a nice addition if you like to add a bit of a zing to your food. The menu explains which toppings are fresh or frozen, which is something you rarely see anywhere else. The meal was delicious and very filling, but we opted for dessert as well out of pure gluttony. I highly approve of the chocolat mousse!

When it came to the bill, we were surprised at how little it was - less than we'd added up from memory in our heads anyway, even though they had not missed anything. When we came to leave, an Australian couple had also arrived but apart from that quite empty. This was a surprise as it is such a lovely little restaurant - especially being a Friday night. The French waitress that served us was very friendly and the atmosphere in the restaurant was very warming and unprotentious. A perfect end to the perfect holiday. Highly recommended should you ever be in the area. There are two car parks in the main square just a couple of minutes walk away.
