I stayed at the Fanourakis for ten days in August with my two friends ( All 19) . We stayed in a ground floor studio over looking the pool and bar area. The studio it's self was small , and the kitchen area left a lot to be admired with a broken warm fridge. The bathroom was a decent size however the shower didn't have a curtain which therefore meant the whole bathroom got flooded every time you had a shower. Are rooms were literally only somewhere to lay our heads at the end of the night so we wern't phased by the room at all and it was by no means bad any way. We did get a chance to see some of the hotel rooms located in the other block of fanourakis and the rooms were really nice so I would recommend trying to get one of these if you are considering staying here.
The pool/bar area is lovely, the pool area never got too crowded so it was really relaxing, it felt like you were in a quiet area in the middle of no where , not in party central that is Malia. The prices at the pool bar for food were excellent , cheaper than anywhere else we visited in Malia , and the food was good quality.
The location of the hotel was perfect, literally 2 minute walk to the main strip where everything happens. The walk back at night isn't very well lit so it would be recommended to walk back with someone.
All in all this hotel is lovely and i would recommend it to any young group of people looking to suck up what Malia has too offer. George & Georgia the owners were really friendly to us , and will do what they can to make your holiday enjoyable. The bbq each week is really nice and good value for money! I would deffinately stay here again .

This hotel is immense! We (3 lads) went for a week from 28th June but wish it could have been longer.

Of course it isn't luxury, this is a cheap hotel in Malia at the end of the day, but it is amazing value for money and there are much worse hotels in Malia. A few of our mates stayed in Iris near the beach which was a proper dive compared to this hotel. The rooms are clean and relatively spacious (especially if you're lucky enough, as we were, to bag a room on the bottom floor as they are massive!!), the hotel staff are legendary, the pool is awesome and the bar is decent too.

The two best things about Fanourakis were the size and the location. It's pretty small, just over 30 people, which is good because it's never stupidly lively in the day or anything when you're feeling a little tender, but it comes alive at night. It's like a little community! The location was brilliant, it's sort of tucked away down a street running off the strip, about 5 mins from all the bars and clubs etc. You don't want to be staying in a hotel right on the strip so Fanourakis is perfect.

Stay here and you'll have a top time. George - keep it open!!

No photos or comments can give this hotel justice. It was brilliant. By far the best pool in Malia, extremely friendly and approachable family members running the hotel, and great value for money. As someone commented above, if you pay less you don't expect the world's greatest hotel - but the Fanourakis was everything that we paid for and more.

Upon arrival we immediately felt safe; the member of staff came and greeted us at the gates after watching CCTV (expecting our arrival); then carried our suitcases to our rooms and gave us a complimentary fishbowl whilst talking us through Malia and the dos and dont's of the resort/hotel.

Every evening the owner would chat with us and genuinely check upon our wellbeing; other members of staff offered advice on what to do during the day and night to make our stay even more special.

I can't quite express how much fun I've had over the last week. Malia might be a place for a specific clientelle, but this hotel absolutely provides for those people.

Very much recommend for people to stay in this hotel - we were wary after reading some comments below, but on personal experience I would recommend that people go and experience Malia whilst staying at this very well located, priced and friendly hotel.

The Fanourakis apartments were in a great location, just a few minutes walk from the main strip, even if it was a bit of a dark walk at night! I went with my best friend as a girls holiday and loved the nightlife and the beach. The beach was great with lovely sand and clean waters. It was a good 15-20 walk down to the beach, only a few minutes from the shops and restaurants. The rooms were ok, but you get what you pay for. The bathroom was small and you get dripped on everytime you sat on the toilet but we got used to it in the end. The shower hardly had any power so took alot to get the shampoo out! The best bit of the room was the painted walls and the fridge! The balcony was very narrow and we had problems locking the doors to the room, however the manager did fix this...eventually! The airconditioning was rubbish!! It was outside of the bedroom for starters and kept switching off! Probably had the worst night sleep here but then we kept on the beach most of the time haha! On the plus side, the swimming pool is fantastic, nice big pool and nice and warm too! Loved the atmosphere as this was a predominantly young hotel, not for families! The bar played music all day and night with a pool table and friendly staff. The food there was also really nice as we ate lunch there alot...food was just as dear as England though because of pound dropping against the Euro. Drinks on the main strip were alot cheaper than in the hotel as they would lure you in with free shots everywhere! Great location, hotel is nice a quiet just far enough away from the main strip, but rooms are much to be desired! I would recommend this hotel to a group of lively young people who want to experience Malia's nightlife!

went here on a girls holiday in the middle of july...with 6 other girls...
first of all we were a bit worried what the hotel would be like after reading some of the reviews...
when we first arrived we had a lovely greeting, we were shown to out rooms given out keys and as it was evening time we went streight out..

the pool in fanourakis is amazing.. one of the best in malia by far.. and the bacon rolls in the morning are a must =) a good hangover cure
You can buy food and drink at the bar all day and at pretty reasonable prices...however there are lots of restaurants in town if u fancy a nice meal out.

During the day is great around the pool and bar area, because there a very few rooms in the hotel everyone just talking to eachother and it is a really lovely atmosphere.

The rooms are pretty small, however all the rooms are in malia.
we had a nice size kitchen and lots of wardrobe space.
The bathroom wasnt the best.. shower toilet sink, but if u spend hours in the shower the water will run cold so beware =)

the location is perfect! you literally have a 2 minute walk to the local spa which is huge and sells everything you will need.. including really cheap alcohol if u want a drink before you go to party the night away =)
its also a 1 minute walk to the main strip, which is amazing!!!!
there is a quiet end of the strip and a busy end... this hotel is right in the middle of the busy end, however you cannot hear any noise at all in the evening which is brilliant if you want a early night to recover.

The main strip is amazing.., so many bars and clubs, reps are trying to get you into every bar you walk past, so make sure u haggle with them to get the best deals. got to add that appollo was one of the best clubs for us and we ended up finishing most of out nights there.

Would deffo go back here, infact might even go back next year at the start of july with about 10 girls this time.

Ignore all the bad reviews its just people being grumpy and expecting 5star!

Brilliant!!!

I wanted to write this for fanourakis because I think 2 out of the 3 reviews are on here for the wrong Fanourakis as there are 2 or 3 in Malia, and they say it is in old town Malia and 10 minute walk to the strip and rooms are bad etc. This Fanourakis is in a perfect location literally a 2 minute walk to the strip and even though its so close there is still no noise! George and his family and the other staff are amazing. They always made us laugh, helped with any problems and even offered to take 1 of us to the medical centre when someone was ill. Tehy deffinatly made our holiday! The rooms were cleaned everyday and were really spacious. We loved Fanourakis and would recommend it to absolutly anyone looking for a fun and cheap hotel in Malia!
