This hotel was fantastic, from the breakfast, to the spa, and the pool. Make sure you are aware that sometimes the pool is closed. Don't do what we did and go to this hotel to spend a weekend by the pool. To our immense disappointment it was closed for a wedding. Had to say sorry to the kids, I know we promised you a pool for WEEKS and are spending a few hundred dollars this weekend, but the hotel closed the pool for its guests without any type of compensation or way to make up for it. Other than that it was fine. But be ready for a disappointment.

Had a wonderful stay at Pietre Nere Resort. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, the hotel was in top shape and had a wonderful Spa. Standard room was not overly spacious, but well worth the money, clean and excellent airconditioning. Oh, and a large bed.

Breakfast was extensive and sicilian, so expect cannoli's, more sweet things than savoury things but all very fresh (oh the ricotta). Italian coffee freshly made at the spot (no machines!!).Oh, and bubbles....

Easy to reach by car (use a car, it is in 'the middle of nowhere' but close to Modica), very quiet unless there is a wedding/party.

Our 3 day retreat in this quiet area of Sicily was meant to be a getaway, and a relaxing holiday. This hotel ticked all the right boxes! The hotel is in a very quiet area, very modern, and the service offered by all their staff is faultless! Everyone smiles all the time, and they're just extremely helpful. The superior rooms were very nice, however they're not as big as other hotels. The shower is tiny too. The view from the balcony is superb too, but again, balconies are not private and one can roam as they please. We didn't have any issues, but yes, people could have just walked past our room. What I would suggest is that you ask for a room thats on either end, so you can enjoy a wide view without walking past anyone's room.

Breakfast is also top notch! Hot items are limited to 2, but the rest of the selection is very vast, and extremely good. Local produce such as sundried tomatoes in olive oil, mozzarella balls and mozzarella, olives, onion pate, fresh bread and a big selection of pastries and sweets! Lunch and dinner menu are the same the whole day. For those who, like us, were staying there a whole day, it would have been nice to have a small variety, but I won't really complain because the food is very good! 24hr room service is promoted, however no room service menu is available. What I imagine is that one may choose to eat his lunch/dinner meal in the room instead.

The pool area is kept immaculately clean, and the pool size is just right to relax.

The resort is 15 mins drive to the old centre (hotel offers free transportation at 2 different intervals), and there is also an archaeological parc 5 mins away thats worth seeing!

All in all I highly recommend this hotel, both for people seeking a relaxing holiday, and others who might not want to base themselves in the city centre.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony on either side, not in the middle. Requests of amenities is not for the regular people.

Let's deal with some of the negatives first. The hotel is located some 15 minutes from Modica historic centre, the junior suite booked has a minuscule bathroom, awkward toilet location and a claustrophobic shower.

Notwithstanding these shortcomings , it is worthy of four and almost five stars as it offers amongst other matters pretty extraordinary value.

On checking in, we were warmly greeted by Nicoletta, taken to our room and had our attention drawn to the complimentary welcome local Modica chocolates and cold prosecco.

The hotel offers a contemporary setting, with generously proportioned and furnished rooms (albeit tiny bathroom), large sunny pool and terrace areas and generally great facilities.

Parking and wifi are complimentary.

Leaving aside that the minimal and barely warm hot items, the breakfast was a pleasant surprise. Great coffee, delicious pastries, fruit , toast sandwich maker etc and as a holiday bonus prosecco!

A great base for a few days exploring the region and my favourite city of the Baroque triangle Modica.

The wow factor of this resort is the SPA and the staff!
They could not have done more to help us...from finding a hairdryer with a diffuser (for us curlies out there), an appropriate adaptor (as Italy has 2 types of plug holes)
To charge my phone to making sure the main door near elevator and our room was kept open as guests kept walking through and letting it slam.
The not so wow factor: a bit noisy in the morning (and there were only a few guests) to a wedding downstairs that we knew nothing about..luckily it ended at around 12
I took my mum away for a spa and relax couple of days hence needing low noise level. If the above do not bother you then ignore
Breakfast was a let after all the good reviews about the breakfast, I was left disappointed.
Spa is €22 per person and well worth it! Was the highlight of the stay ( as well as relaxing round the pool in the sun)
This was low season so not sure how busy it gets in SPA and around the pool in the summer
Modica is a stone throw away by car..ask the staff to recommend good restaurants in area ( we ate well 5 mins away by car)
Modica is about a 15 min drive
