At Antica Dolceria Bonajuto you can try endless flavours of chocolate before you buy any; in a town with many such stores this is certainly the most famous and probably the most popular chocolate shop so be prepared to queue! In all honest, I'm not sure what I think about the grainy nature of the chocolate - it is certainly authentic and artisan and definitely worth trying.

If you love chocolate, this is the place to satisfy your cravings! Just the aroma will draw you into the oldest chocolate factory in Sicily. Our Globus Tour stopped here to taste samples and view the tiny kitchen where the chocolate is made.

We got a tour of the kitchen and saw how their excellent chocolate is made. Be prepared to wear a cap and gown into the kitchen. In the shop, they have samples out of all of their very great tasting chocolate, so you can taste before you buy.

We enjoyed being the guest of Pierpaolo and watching how Chocolate is made from the Cocoa bean. Then tasting tall the many varieties of chocolate and a pistachio Canoli after dinner was the icing on the cake! Make sure you visit when in Modica

We decided to book into a tour. The shop is small and a little over whelming as it is so busy. If you can book into a tour come back at that time and it is such a great experience. Tour was €3 per person (Great value when you consider the chocolate museum next door is €2.50 and not even worth climbing the stairs for). You get an informative talk on the history of chocolate making in Modica and the process. You then get to go into the kitchen where chocolate is made infront of you along with some of the other patisseries as it is still a working kitchen when you visit. There you get to taste liquid Modica chocolate, a chilli chocolate liquor and some nougat. This all means you are much better informed for battling the shop for your pastry, canollo and chocolate purchases!
