“It's hard to imagine a better place . . .”
Reviewed July 15, 2012 for a stay in July 2011

Our extended family traveled to Italy last summer, ages ranging from 3 to 73. We did alot of research to find just the right place - - and we did. Villa Il Santo is divine. The views are spectacular and the Villa equally so. There is plenty of space, with beautiful sitting areas and an outside dining area where we ate every day. The restaurant at the top of the road was delicious - only wish we could have gone a second time. Annagloria and Enzo are wonderful hosts, committed to making the experience perfect. We would go back in a minute.

“Our magical trip to Tuscany”
Reviewed April 15, 2012 for a stay in September 2011

My husband and had the awesome pleasure to stay at one of Annaglorias properties "Villa Il Santo" last summer and it was a vacation with our friends of a life time. The home is located on top of this magical hill facing the vinards and the Tuscan country side and the sunsets are priceless not to mention the morning sunrise burning the rolling fog. It was like we were in then clouds. The gardens are furnished perfectly so you and your friends can take advantage of the views from any seating angle while drinking and eating wonderful food finds from the local town markets and the villas own wine cellar.
The interior of the Villa is stunning and built to provide you with all the comforts of home plus more. The old antiques complement the simple, clean, contemporary furnishings of the overall design but none of them take away from the beauty of the buildings and their history. It's like old and new found a perfect place to coexist.
AnnaGloria was very attentive to our groups needs and meet with us on a regular basis to discuss daily trips, places to see and shop, cooking/menu arrangements, wine stocking needs or anything else that we might needed. Knowing that we could have called on her or her husband at any given time for anything just make the vacation that much better.
We intend to return to Tuscany for many years to come and to stay at any of these properties, not only because they are beatiful but because their owners truelly embody the spirit of true hospitality and Tuscany.
Sincerely Elsa

“Everything I dreamed Tuscany would be...”
Reviewed August 31, 2011 for a stay in July 2011

My husband and I planned this trip to Italy for my 40th birthday. We went with 4 other couples. I can say this was the best trip we've ever taken! The villa was amazing. When we first arrived and I stared out the top-floor master bath arched window, it was like looking at a piece of heaven. It was breathtaking! The views from the villa are spectacular! We could see San Gimignano in the distance! One of our guides' husband said that the view is seen how it would have been seen 700 years ago...untouched and unspoiled! The rose garden, pool area and other outdoor areas beckon you to sit and relax and take it all in. We did!! We enjoyed walking down the steep path into the vineyards and also up the road away from the villa to surrounding properties. The location is ideal for traveling to Florence or Siena for the day. We also visited San Gimignano and Montalcino. I highly recommend using Le Baccanti tours too if you need excellent guides and/or drivers for your stay. They made our day trips fun, flexible and easy! Owners of the villa, Annagloria and Enzo, made us feel welcome and like family. They met our every need. Their wine cooler with local red wines came in handy too! The bedrooms are very large and all have private baths which is perfect for couples wishing to stay together yet seek privacy. The pool was enjoyed by everyone too. We would have like to have had hotter water in the hot tub however, as we had a couple cool evenings. All in all, this villa was beyond our expectations. We would go back in a heartbeat!

“Il Santo - Breathtaking Location & Luxuriously Appointed”

From the moment we met Enzo at the villa we were completely overwhelmed by Il Santo’s location, views and it’s 5-star luxury. Never had we anticipated such a slice of heaven and it truly exceeded all our expectations.
Our group of 3 families (13 in total) had a week here in July. We all fell in love with Il Santo. It has a stunning location, 3kms from Barberino Val D’elsa , and is quintessential Tuscany – rolling hills, olive trees and vineyards. We never tired of the breathtaking views including the towers of San Gimignano viewed from the terrace. The villa is a short stroll from a beautiful hamlet, called Petrognano, which has a lovely restaurant (an oasis in its own right!) that we walked to for dinner one night. It’s also approx 30mins from both Florence & Sienna.
The villa is beautifully appointed. The gourmet kitchen is a delight to work in and has two large fridges and a marvellous 60sec industrial dishwasher (which we are missing now we are home!). There is another glass doored fridge where Enzo provided his “own- labelled” wine (at a modest charge per bottle) and we treated ourselves nightly to the spoils of his vineyard. I can’t not mention his wonderful extra virgin olive oil which we used copiously in our cooking. Our sensory delights will never be the same again!
Despite having this stunning kitchen, they arranged for a local cook to come in on several nights. We were treated to beautiful home cooked Tuscan fare whilst dining outside overlooking the nightlights across the valley. We didn’t think life could get better than this!
Despite having 7 teenage girls with us we never felt on top of each other. The villa is large and has 3 separate living areas and several zoned areas for outside seating so you could escape from a big group if you felt inclined. We enjoyed lounging with our pre dinner drinks in a different outdoor location each night!
Enzo and Annagloria were charming hosts and their involvement enhanced our experience of Italian life. They would tend to our needs and provide great advice on the sights & activities around the area. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We couldn’t fault anything about our stay at Il Santo – we truly never expected it to be such an overwhelming experience and we reluctantly (!) left but with wonderful memories of a holiday of a lifetime.

“Exceeded all expectations!”
Reviewed July 18, 2011 for a stay in June 2011

The week our family spent at Villa Il Santo was simply enchanting. After reading the descriptions and seeing the pictures of the Villa I had high hopes of an idyllic Tuscan retreat. But no words or pictures could adequately capture its sweeping panoramic views, its lavish appointments, or the engaging personality of its charismatic owners Enzo and Annagloria. With three generations of our family in tow, it was the perfect venue to celebrate my mother and father-in-law's eightieth birthdays. The century old, meticulously restored Villa provided spacious gathering areas, a gourmet's dream kitchen, vast indoor and outdoor dining areas, and an infinity pool with a breath-taking vista of the Elsa Valley - yet we were all afforded opportunity for our own privacy in the sumptuous bedrooms, each one complete with its own full bath/shower. Perhaps our most magical experience (which quickly became the routine of anyone who was awake) was to gather in the morning on the south patio with a hearty espresso and watch the mist lift off the valley to reveal the assortment of vineyards, olive and cypress trees, all crowned in the distance by the 10th century village of San Gimignano (now forever known to our children as "San Jimmy-Johns.") The sunsets were no less spectacular as we toasted the close of yet another beautiful day with a glass of locally vinted Chianti. It was such a treat to have been wined, dined, and pampered by Rosanna, the Villa's personal chef, who was not only a culinary delight, but also responsible for our fluency in Italian sign language. Villa Il Santo is located about forty minutes south of Florence and thirty minutes northwest of Sienna and is within an easy drive of several other quaint Tuscan villages. There is a substantial supermarket located in the town of Tavernelle, about a ten minute drive from the Villa. Please be aware that I did find several drawbacks; I was reluctant to sight-see or take many day trips as I never really wanted to leave the Villa. It was often confusing when attempting to meet someone "on the patio"; it became necessary to specify which one (as there were four!) Having a car is a necessity, but driving like a local is not. I hope my kids will consider this an advanced request for my eightieth birthday present. Enzo and Annagloria, gratzie!
