“Exactly as advertised”
Reviewed January 3, 2016 for a stay in December 2015

I found Montgomery Coach House by chance after a friend suggested I might like this area. So, I booked myself a little birthday treat and took my husband along for the ride (well he drove). If I was an owner then I would like to think that I was like Steve. Ready and waiting for us; eager to show us around the house - but not intrusive. When I said I'll just wipe my feet before walking around he said "don't worry, it's your house now".
Everything about the house was delightful. It was warm, clean, quiet, tastefully decorated and furnished and, despite being not far from the road, very quiet.
The downstairs living area was great for two of us. Perhaps if there are 4 people and you want to cook then you may find it a little tight.
The upstairs was spacious and comfortable with beautiful big beds.
The surrounding area is beautiful. Despite the time of year, we saw amazing landscape that just popped up when we were least expecting it.
Finally, even though it's only a minor thing I think it makes a big impression when the owner leaves a welcome basket - it's that little treat that makes you know you're on holiday. And a very nice basket it was too!

As always, we are very grateful when our guests take the time, and make the effort, to let their fellow holiday makers know how they found us during their stay. We are even happier when they tell everyone that they enjoyed their time with us - thank you Joy C for being that guest. We are delighted that you liked the welcome basket although please don't think it always contains Christmas Crackers! Who knows, if you time your next visit to this beautiful part of the country correctly you may find an Easter Egg next time......
Kind Regards and thank you for choosing to stay with us.

“Faultless”
Reviewed December 2, 2015 for a stay in November 2015

It is rare to stay anywhere where the owners have genuinely thought of and provided everything that anyone could reasonably expect, and more besides. A very high spec cottage, toasty warm and comfortable, fabulous shower. All very welcome on a wet and miserable November weekend. Thank you so much.

It was our pleasure Dominic, we are delighted that you found everything to your liking and that you were 'toasty' in spite of the weather; the underfloor heating is pretty amazing so hopefully you didn't have to go any where near breaking out the hot water bottles! Next time you are up this way you know where to find us.......... Best wishes.

“The best cottage we've stayed in!”
Reviewed November 19, 2015 for a stay in November 2015

You really couldn't ask for more in this lovely cottage - a very warm welcome, owners on site if you need anything but total privacy if you want this too. They have thought of everything you would want whilst staying away from home and the welcome pack of locally baked bread, local cider, a bottle water and milk in the fridge along with a selection of Tyrells crisps was a really nice touch.

The beds are exceptionally comfortable and bed linen and towels all lovely quality - no cutting corners in this place! It was such a relaxing place to stay in and with Hay on Wye only a 5 minute drive away in one direction and Hereford about 25 minutes in the other direction what more could you want?

Unfortunately the weather wasn't good whilst we were there as there was even a private decked area behind the cottage - perfect for breakfast outdoors on a sunny morning.

I can't recommend this place enough - we very much hope to return and will definitely be recommending to friends.

We couldn't be happier with your great review jardinm, thank you so much. Not only is it very flattering to be named by you as 'The best cottage' you have stayed in but more importantly it gives us plenty of clues as to what we seem to be getting right. It was a 'tad' blowy during your stay with us so the deck was clearly not the place to dine but we feel sure you would have been very cosy indoors behind those lovely thick walls.
It was great to hear of your future plans, we look forward to bumping into you in Hay or our local The Boat Inn sometime next year!
Kind regards.

“All the home comforts and more, much more”
Reviewed November 3, 2015 for a stay in November 2015

We stayed in Montgomery's Coach House, a separate, private building with the grounds and It was absolutely lovely, just what we were looking for.
Furnished to a high standard throughout with lots of nice little touches and equipped with everything you could possibly require.
The owner is a real nice guy too and had left some fresh bread, milk and local cider, deserves every success.
Location great too, easy access to Hay on Wye, Hereford but to be honest there are so many walks accessible from the doorstep you could stay right there! The local pub within minutes walk, good food and great country side in every direction, we loved it.

Thank you bev1958 for all the nice things you have said, not just about our Coach House but also your mention that we are surrounded by lots of great things to do and see all wrapped up in idyllic countryside!. As you have discovered, it is impossible to 'do' Herefordshire in a weekend so we are delighted that you intend to come back - sorry we couldn't fit you in for the original dates you were after. Hopefully we will see you again in the New Year. Best wishes.

What an amazing place, and wonderful first class / five star cottage... we had a lovely long weekend with our 3 year son. The weather was just perfect went a little cold in the evening but the under floor heating and log fire soon warmed us up. We enjoyed Sunday dinner at the Boat which was well the visit excellent food and super views over looking the River, this is a must for anyone that visits.
Steve made us very welcome and supplied a super welcome pack which we all enjoyed.
I have nothing bad or negative to say part from we had to come home, we will definitely returning ...just a lovely place to chill and relax
Thanks again Steve

“Top class self catering accommodation”
Reviewed September 20, 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Had one weeks holiday in this beautifully converted accommodation. Extremely well equipped, lots of storage and everything you could need. Stephen and his wife were very friendly and helpful without being obtrusive. Lots of parking and nice courtyard to sit and enjoy the sun. Finally brilliant communication when booking can not fault the service.

I have to say, Highroast, that we love to see reviews that have a header containing the words 'Top Class'. Thank you very much for taking to TA and letting everyone know how much you enjoyed your week with us, it is much appreciated. We are glad that you found us 'friendly without being obtrusive' that is exactly the type of owner we like to meet when we go and stay somewhere! We hope that you will consider staying with us again when you next have the chance of a break. Warm regards.

“First class accommodation and wonderful surroundings!”
Reviewed August 15, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We received a. very warm welcome from Steve and Alison. Goody basket on arrival included local produce which we greatly enjoyed, and our dog was also very appreciative of her treats! The accommodation had the wow factor , was spotlessly clean and contained everything we needed. The beds and bed linen were very comfortable and the bedrooms spacious. We loved exploring the Brecon Beacons both by foot and by car. We particularly enjoyed walking around the Talybont on Usk area and the waterfalls at the Talybont Forest (Lower Blean and Glyn.) We enjoyed good food at the Boat Inn just a minutes walk away, a wonderful Indian meal in Weobley at the Lal Bagh restaurant and, on one of our longer drives, at The Bell Country Inn Crickhowell. Another highlight was a late coffee at the River cafe just a short drive away, where we sat and watched the bats over the river Wye. We loved every minute of our 5 day stay at Montgomery Coach House. We packed plenty in to our days and had a wonderfully comfortable cottage to relax and recharge our batteries!

Thank you for such a well written rounded review Colin, you should write for the travel section of a Sunday supplement! You seem to have covered all the bases; us, the accommodation, the local amenities, the area - all of which seemed to be very much to your liking I am glad to say. I have probably said it before but we are very lucky to be surrounded by lots to do and lovely countryside, we try hard to uphold our end of the bargain by ensuring our guests want for nothing and have a comfortable spot to lay their heads after a hard day exploring. We very much hope to see you all again sometime.
