“Very charming cottage”

We greatly enjoyed our stay in the cosy and comfortable cottage. Stonecrop is well situated for exploring Hadrian's Wall and roaming through the countryside. Walking along the varied landscape of the South Tyne river we discovered an interesting old railway bridges, amazing views of fiery autumnal forest and dramatic walks over high hills.
Our youngest was happy to be 'home' and play games near the fireplace. Lot's of nice books, games and films available in the cottage for rainy days.
Thank you Richard for your excellent welcome!

“The perfect cottage, Rural, Scenic, Peaceful, Cosy, Well equipped, Homely.”

We have just spent a lovely relaxing week in this delightful cottage, surrounded by beautiful scenery in the quiet hamlet of Eals. This is the 'real deal' proper traditional cottage quaint and homely, thick stone walls, log burner, roses around the door, low beams, nothing false or plastic yet has all mod cons too. Lovely traditional cottage garden with a small orchard, over the low stone wall there are sheep and rabbits and the river running at the bottom of the field can be heard as you sit relaxing.
A short walk along the lane leads to the river, our dog enjoyed hours of swimming in the deep slow running pool every day. A foot bridge over the river leads up to a dis used railway line which is a 13 mile flat level walk, from Haltwhistle to Alston, you join it about mid way at this point.
A lovely place to stay, we felt at home the second we walked through the door and will be returning again, to explore more of the surrounding area.

“Another lovely stay”

We visited Stonecrop for the 3rd time from the 7th to 14th of June. This place is a little slice of heaven. Such a relaxing and quiet setting. We explored the other side of the South Tyne River this time, as the bridge had been fixed. Its a fantastic walk 5 minutes from the cottage.
All friendly neighbours. A place you never want to leave and go home from. The house and garden are all you need on a holiday. Cosy cottage and views from the garden are just heaven.
Can't wait to go back very soon :-)

“Simply wonderful - could not have been better”

What a find! I cannot think of anything I would change about this place, it is simply fabulous. Walking Hadrians wall with 3 friends we wanted a comfortable base, and this was just perfect. A charming old stone built cottage with all mod cons - the welcome gift was such a lovely touch, and there were even flowers from the garden. A lot of thought and effort has been put into making this a great place to stay. The beds were deliciously comfortable and the cottage was a real home from home. I am already planning to return. Thank you so much for making out holiday truly memorable.

“Lovely for you and your dogs”

Myself and my wife along with our two Border Collies visited this cottage from 7th to 14th of March this year. We had high hopes for this cottage after reading the reviews and seeing the photographs posted on this site. Upon our arrival we were not disappointed, the cottage was as it looked in the photo's - beautiful from the outside and warm and cosy inside with decor in - keeping with a period cottage. The bottle of red wine and shortbread biscuits was a nice welcoming gift. The cottage has everything that you need to make your stay enjoyable. The kitchen was extremely well equipped and the furniture and bedding was very comfortable indeed. Our dogs loved the large enclosed garden and never wanted to come in from it. The location of the cottage is in such a beautiful little hamlet and the views into the garden are superb - a backdrop of fields and woodland. There was no one staying before we arrived and no one after us and prior to travelling up to Stonecrop the owner, Richard contacted us and informed us that we could get there any time we wanted on our first day and leave any time on our day of departure; this was very appreciated. We would love to come back and visit again and judging by the visitor book everyone does ! I would, without hesitation recommend this cottage to families or couples, especially ones with dogs and they can rest assured in the knowledge that they will be renting a superb cottage in an idyllic location.

This was or second stay at Stonecrop. Such a lovely and tranquil place to stay. The cottage has everything you could possible need and the setting is stunning. Its a great place if you enjoy walking. We took our 2 dogs with us and by the time we go back home they are shattered.
We have already booked to go back in the summer. Can't wait.

“A genuine warm and tranquil place to be in the North Pennines.”

Love this cottage and have stayed many times. Each season has something new to offer. In winter it is a warm and snug home from home which is important in the icy North Pennines. There are lovely walks from the doorstep and you return to a draught free, comfortable place to relax. The village is friendly and authentic and in nearby Alston you can stock up on provisions. The Moody Bakers is a favourite for bread and treats. We have recommended the cottage to many of our friends previously and some like us have become regulars. If you enjoy solitude and getting away from it all this is perfect for you.
