Had a bar snack of fish and chips and it was lovely, my friends also had scampi, steak pie which they said was superb. Good variety of ales for the men, was a quiet evening but we enjoyed ourselves. Well worth a visit.

A fantastic place, food very good.
We got there 10mins after the breakfast serving time, to be told no problem, what would you like!

Highly recommend and a special kids menu too.

Decent coffee and nice Welsh cakes to warm you on a brisk winter's day. Full menu available all day, and there's a bar as well. Main selling point is the location right on the platform of the Highland light railway for steam buffs with seating outside and great views across the bay

We were hungry and looking for somewhere to eat in Porthmadog so went through a few reviews on here and settled on Spooners. It was dead when we went in but being a November Sunday evening it was probably the norm and not a reflection on the place (I hope).
The staff were great and took bar and food orders swiftly and efficiently. Plenty to choose from and prices were fine too.
Some of the food was a letdown though. The crab and salmon fishcake starter did not appear homemade and was adequate in taste. The whitebait though large in quantity was over cooked and barely edible. The braised lamb main looked great was very tender but under the first layer of meat was a lot of fat and bone, the veg was fresh and well cooked. My burger was tasty and passable.
Maybe I should've raised the above issues with the staff however I am very cautious of doing so when someone else is in charge of cooking my food.
Would we call again - probably not as there are plenty of choices locally when visiting again

The evening meals are fantastic unfortunately breakfast was heavily deep fat fried including mushroom and sausages. We also didn't get black pudding on our breakfast the second day. It's such a shame as everything else is and fantastic the staff at the desk a lovely beautiful clean tables and beautiful restaurant overlooking hills and trains.
