Excellent day out, can't believe we have never been here before especially as we stay in north wales a few times a year. We got a family ticket and was well worth the money, with a 9 year old and a 12 year old who both enjoyed it, especially the miniature railway. Educational and fun will be returning again on our next visit to wales, the staff were very friendly too.

Yet another great day out on the Welsh Highland Railway - the second visit this year. Fabulous views but alas we had rain so that kind of spoilt the view! However on the return journey we decided to travel in the “open” carriage which was fabulous and a great way to travel. If you are wanting a bite to eat the bacon sandwich is very nice.

It’s not a cheap day out but for anyone with a love of steam trains it’s a must !

We go every year - it's always a nice visit.

The short train ride with the super views. Then the visit to the engine sheds museum - with a miniature railway ride there as well!

The activities and displays change and are updated every year. There is an interesting display about WW1 and the use of miniature railways at Ypres this year.

Excellent value - two railways and lots of fun in the museum. Particularly good for families with young kids.

Excellent experience at the wrlsh highland heritage railway. we went on a steam running day. the tickets were well priced the experience was priceless. we boarded the train in the excellent carriages all very well maintained. the doors are closed on departure and we set off to the other end of the line.
once we was at the other end its up to the children to change the points and get the engine to change ends. the staff are amazing, my partners little girl had to take the Key from the driver to the guard. he then explained to the children about changing the points in a way children understand. eventually the called back the loco and we headed back but stopped off at the museum.
the museum is great theres a minature train, locos not in service, childrens activities, a train where they can climb into the cab and sound the horn and make the steam come out. theres bits grown ups can read too. you can try to control the runaway train.
Its a great little place and 100% worth a visit.

We'd been before but many years ago, we were pleased to see the car park is still free & the cafe & shop are still good value.
A family ticket was about £22 and for an hour or so activity we think this represents good value.
Miles & Caleb were our young volunteers/guards and were friendly throughout.
For the price the train goes up to Pen Y mount, here the guard will let children help with the signals while the train recouples then it's on to Gelert farm where you can go on the miniature train as many times as you want & see the old engines in the museum. Then back on the train back to Porthmadog.
A great little train ride.
