Description: The Bull and Heifer is a small but vibrant little country pub in the heart of the village of Bettws Cedewain, near Newtown. It's a traditional black and white public house, with oodles of character and charm, where you are sure of a warm welcome, whenever you arrive. This family pub is a recent addition to the village, yet it's hard to believe that it hasn't been 'The local' for years...

My wife and I came here on the Bank holiday weekend at the end of May for Sunday lunch with my brother and his two young children. They had reserved us a nice big table on the ground floor. Had heard a lot of good reports about this pub and for all of us it lived up to them. The food was very tasty with good portions of vegetables in side dishes. The waitresses were lovely, very professional but friendly. Lovely girls. Well done. We shall return.

We had booked for Sunday lunch but left after an hour after being told chef had not yet begun preparing our starters. Little or no communication from staff was very frustrating. We had driven a little way on a scorching Sunday so were also unhappy about the wasted time. This pub seriously needs to get its act together and not collapse under the strain off busy Sunday lunchtime. I will think twice about returning ?

We have visited the Bull & Heifer several times over the past few months and have tried both restaurant meals and basket meals all have been very enjoyable. However the Sunday lunch excels choice of meats vegetables and excellent real ales, one warning the portions are generous so be prepared to leave feeling very full.

After our amazing first visit a month ago to try it out before bringing some overseas visitors, we arrived on Saturday 30th June for dinner at 19:00 (we'd asked for a specific table to be reserved when we made the booking at the time of our previous visit). We were rather cross to find 'our' table occupied, but could see that they may not have taken much longer.

We discussed the matter with the waitress, and said we'd take a drink outside in the garden while we waited, and at her suggestion would order our food sooner rather than later. Come 8 o'clock and the table had still not been vacated, so we said we would take the table that had been reserved for us. The starters didn't arrive for about 20 minutes, and it was about 9:45pm before we'd finished our main courses which took forever (and a check) to arrive ~ it really, really spoiled what should have been a great evening with our visitors; as we had an early start the following morning, there was no time to have either dessert or coffee. We won't be returning, despite the quality of the food: customer service is far too important an element of a visit.

What has also been disappointing to not see here on Trip Advisor is any response by the management, whether to praise or criticism: perhaps they don't feel it's important enough.

We popped in for lunch but had to wait nearly an hour for a salad and a basket meal to be delivered. When the food eventually arrived it was fine but wating nearly an hour
for a lunchtime snack is not acceptable, I suggest that if there is likely to be a delay of more than 15 minutes for lunch, that customers are advised of this on arrival. Also, perhaps having more than one member of staff on duty would be a good idea. The person working behind the bar today had to take drinks orders, serve drinks, take food orders, serve food, process payments and answer the phone. Too much for one person even if the pub had been quiet.
