While this hotel used to be a Best Western, the rooms are the same quality you would expect from them, just they aren't quite as up to date as a BW would be nowadays.
Don't normally do overnighters in Rimbey as my work is based out of Red Deer, but with a couple jobs in the area it saved from the back and forth driving on that busy Hwy 20!
So I chose Rimbey Ridge over CanAlta because of the quality expected being a former BW. Now I have had some experience staying in hotels during the COVID-19. So far everyone has a slightly different format. Some don't even serve free breakfast, others would have limited options available to take-out, and some do the breakfast bags to go like this hotel. However, I did not realize this place required a form to fill out, as the front desk never even provided nor did they ever explain to me how their breakfast and other services work in line with COVID-19. It is proper etiquette to inform all guests about any odd changes due to the pandemic, as they're all so different and unique to each hotel/motel/motor Inn.
This resulted in me missing out on free breakfast next morning due to the lack of communication from the front desk. The worst part is, whoever was at the desk that morning could not even offer me something quickly to warm up and go. I had time, and they could have easily gone in the back and warmed me up something to make up for their error they made. Did not even do that. Guest takes the loss for their mistake. Now, given the price reduction and that Air Miles were used on a free night, no big deal, but still a free breakfast is included in that 115 CAD/night, and I end up having to buy it from the GTI station, thank goodness they were open before I start work at 7 am.
The pool/waterslide was nice, except the ladies cleaning the place were caught in the mens room as I was entering! Ahhh! What next? They see me coming in and showed me the sign-in book, and then there they are in the mens room. Lol, it's a good thing I didn't just all of a sudden strip or that would've been a scene! I appreciate them all keeping things COVID-19 safe! Just giving them a hard time!
Anyways, all in all not a bad stay. Communication could have been a lot better with the breakfast that's all. Free breakfast is one important factor in my choosing of a place to stay. I thought this place would at least be a bit more decent, due to the ratings I had seen. Turns out CanAlta might have been the better choice.
Sorry, but I have stayed at quite a few places across Alberta from the most budget friendly motels out east to these grandiose hotels and I must rate fairly. A place out in Coronation for $65/night at least offered free breakfast where I could go in, use hand sanitizer, wear a mask, grab food and go. In Red Deer, a BW plus would allow us to freely walk in and grab a breakfast burrito in a bag and coffee and go. Here? No breakfast unless I fill out a form? Then at least GIVE me the form when I check in! Unfortunately there won't be a next time, but I cannot give a 4-star rating to this, where others out there that are much smaller scale, are offering even better service.
