we ventured to the island for the first time after dreaming of coming her for what felt like ages. We hoped to book our entire stay at the Mawimbi but sadly it was booked for the beginning portion of our stay...dang... so I started my search for another place and stumbled up on the reviews for this place...it was all I hope for and so much more!! I cannot say enough good things about this place. This property was easy to book online via THEIR website with Tony. No issues. He was helpful and patient answering all my questions prior to booking. We took a taxi (golf cart) from the pier and there was a kitty kat on the stoop to greet us. The front desk clerk Ed was super friendly and full of information. Erica our maid did a great job for us daily and always had a smile. We visted late March and the weather was fab! The property is lovely and well looked after meticulously by two grounds keepers! We loved how each porch was tilted at an angle so you can have a clear view of the ocean but not peering into the next door neighbors. We had a king size bed that was super comfy. Room are super clean and have a nice little fridge. Walk in shower was gorgeous inlaid river rock and quite spacious. I would recommend bringing an outlet strip for charging phones etc...we used it for our our little four cup coffee pot we brought. We also brought a variety of size ziploc bags for storing stuff in the fridge or cooker or for extra ice etc... also we brought our own thermo mug and used it for coffee in the a.m. and drinks in the afternoon. I also brought along two stemless (plastic) wine glasses and my own corkscrew that were super handy for wine on the patio watching the gorgeous sunsets!! The chairs are adirondak style and comfy. We got wifi on our patio but not "IN" the room. But that may have been the location of our room. There are Big and comfy chaise and palapa's for your use as well as a pool. We mixed up drinks in our room with supplies we bought in town ( a quick walk ) and would head to the beach that was a mere 15 second walk from our patio and play frisbee or float in the ocean (highly recommend bringing a floatie) for hours! Do bring a small flashlight for walking home at night even if it's a quick walk as some of the sidewalks/streets can be a bit uneven. We found the location to be great for walking the beach to dining or for a just exercise...or just walk the street and within a few blocks tons of great dining choices. Our fridge was a mini size with not a ton of room so we stored our excess ice in our small cooler we brought along. Snacks, cheese, yogart, soda's etc...stocked our fridge for early morning snacks, or leftovers etc... and were plentiful and cheap from the little Tienda's. I found great Reisleing for $6.00 a bottle at the tienda that has the big Great Dane in it. We walked down to a local mom and popl place and got a big order of Ceviche and chips to go and enjoyed it on our patio with the sunset and wine...does it get better than that??

There was one afternoon the local guys (about 30 of them) showed up and played game after game of Soccer on the beach in front of the hotel. This was a treat for us to watch and there was some real talent there also. They truly enjoyed each others company and had a fun banter going on as well. At sunset..."they stopped' ...like everyone else and slowed down and took in that sunset!! love it!

The property also offered some very nice bicycles for guests to use. You check them out with the front desk.

As I said we were bummed when booking our trip that we couldn't get into the Mawimbi right away...turns out we REALLY loved this place and would stay here again. Heads up...Bring your own coffee pot...it's easy people, no need to complain they don't offer it I kinda like it that there is no dining onsite as there are choices within 2 minutes walk via the beach...literally...if you have any questions on this property feel free to send me a private message and I will try to help. Cheers...safe travels all and thanks to everyone at the HOtel puerto holbox for a fantastic stay!

Room Tip: Not a bad view in the place! Only 10 rooms I believe total.

Private beach zone, sea view, clean and generally well maintained. Had some issues with the transportation from Cancun airport to holbox but this seems to be a general problem on the island of holbox. Make sure you sort out your transport before your arrival. The hotel doesn't have a restaurant or breakfast zone but you can easily walk along the beach to find several locations to eat and drink.

Just what the doctor ordered. A short walk into town for anything. Don't bring nice shoes -- Holbox Island is strictly dirt streets, extremely laid back! Beautiful property. Nice rooms. Beautiful view!

We have just returned from our 5th vacation at this beautiful hotel and can't wait to visit again. The rooms are simple, basic and spotless. The entire property is well cared for. Every year we can see the improvements. This year it was a new fridge, light fixtures, outlets, faucets and matresses. The location is an eight minute walk from town so it makes it perfect for being far enough away that you don't hear any noise, but still an easy walk. It is on a very quiet stretch of beach with a perfect view of the sunset every night. The staff is very friendly to everyone and always willing to help with any questions you may have.
