We went for five nights, and had the intention of going out for a couple of days on boats, hiring a car etc etc, but in the event did none of that, and spent pretty much all of our time in the hotel. It's fantastic!

Loud music playing by the pool all day, and an awesome swim up bar -- what more do you need!

The pool is apparently THREE TIMES the size of an Olympic pool -- yes, huge! Never crowded, and with plenty of corners and private areas to get away from everyone else. Having said that, even when the hotel was at maximum occupancy, it wasn't busy poolside.

The only thing was breakfasts -- it's worth paying a little extra for access to the King's Club. Breakfast in the main dining hall was manic, yet it couldn't have been more peaceful in the club lounge area. When you factor in that you get breakfast, afternoon tea, beers, wines, cocktails and tapas in the evening -- you'll soon get your money's worth!

It would be great for a family with young children -- a large shallow lagoon area for them, and a reasonably big set of flumes etc in the pool.

Staff were fantastic -- couldn't have been more welcoming, friendly, and generally great at their jobs.

The beach isn't great, but it's far from bad. More shingle than sand would be the only criticism. Oh, and the men pushing for you to go on jet skis, parasailing etc

It's a few minutes walk from the night market, and the small town, full of bars and restaurants. It was all pretty quiet though, and almost empty by 11pm, so this isn't what you want if you're looking for big night life.

Overall, a great option, and a hotel we'll definitely be going back to.

Room Tip: Waterfront rooms have steps down into the pool, which look great. Otherwise, it's worth paying t...

Great hotel.. The room was superb, clean and comfy. BEST of all was the sea view, breath taking and the sound of the waves at night. The pool was also nice with both sands and tiles at the bottom. We even had a 1 hour complimentary massage and it was so nice to have our massage outside near the beach. It was such a great relaxing stay for us. Thank you Hard Rock for the wonderful stay.

Amazing hotel. We stayed in a lagoon room (102) which had direct pool acess. This was amazing!!! Totally worth the extra. This room was also along at the quiet end of the pool so if you are travelling as a couple ask for a room at this end.

The turndown service at night was great! You even got a fun gift every night!! The slinkys were great fun!!

Hotel gets really busy at the weekends. Full of kids!!!

Hard rock cafe which is attached is great value for food but cocktails totally overpriced ( did't stop us buying them but worth noting). If you are looking for an alternative then cafe yam across the road or enca to the right well worth a visit. Don't look much but fantastic food. Ferringhi garden was also good ( turn left towards night markets)

Only real down side to the hotel was breakfast. Was ok fir a few days but 2 weeks if the same food was a bit tiresome! Food could be Luke warm and it's the only area if the hotel where the staff were not the usual 'rockin' standard. It was not bad just not great.

Also if you are a long stay guest you get 10% off at hard rock cafe and 15% off at the rock shop!

From arrival to check out the staff (including the trainees) were helpful and friendly. Room was comfy and clean. The live band performances were good. I'd recommend the Hip and Cool to stay at this hotel for a whole new experience...

I was recently in Malaysia with my family and we decided to make a last minute trip to Penang, Batu Ferringhi. We got a last minute booking at Hard Rock Hotel, for a great price for a basic room. Upon arrival we discovered that it was low season so they had lots of upgrade rooms to offer at great prices.
All the "stars" or staff to normal people were really helpful, and welcoming. The pool is excellent, clean and has plenty of sunbeds on the beach, grass and poolside areas, with fountains and slides for the kids.
Our room was a good size, we had a king size bed and had added an extra bed for our 10 year old - I was concerned that having an extra bed in the room would make it feel cramped, but it didn't at all. Food at hard Rock Cafe is good, but the menu isn't as varied as it is in other countries like UK or USA. The Starz restaurant is also good, but if you are not a seafood fan a little limited, and service was a little slow as they are cooking for the restaurant, lounge bar and room service from this location. Food at the shack is great poolside choices, and really quick.
Overall a great place to stay. I will definitely go back.
