The Ship Restaurant at Batu Faringhi beach, Penang is a very good Western restaurant located about half was along the bay road and on the beach side of the road. The restaurant building is in the shape of a Ship and the waiters are dressed in sailor suits. The menu is extensive and has a good selection of European and Asian food. We had the Onion Soup and Black Pepper Steak and a Prawn Cocktail followed by Beef Stroganoff. All the dishes were well presented and good. Service was good and the prices reasonable. We would recommend this restaurant as well as their other restaurants in Georgetown, Penang and in Kuala Lumpur.

The food here was great but only visited because the kids wanted to. We would usually frequent more locally cultural establishments, but don't let this put you off, it into still worth a look.

I have heard quite a bit about this restaurant being one of the 'oldest' western restaurant available in Penang but sad to say, the management need to keep a better eye on the operations side of things. I had wanted to order T-bone steak which is one of their chef's recommendations - OUT OF STOCK, of the 4 steaks listed on the chef's recommendation - only 2 were available, the sirloin and ribs. Geez..... and this is a steak restaurant.....

Then the drinks, I had wanted to order wine by the glass - both white and red house wine is out of stock, I had wanted to order a bottle of wine (Italian) - out of stock. I had wanted to order another bottle of wine (Australian) - out of stock. The waiter came back with the ONLY two choices from Chile.

The sirloin steak served which was ordered as medium, but came in as well done. Lots of tendon and was a thin slice. My nephew still felt hungry after the meal. The baked patoto was 'lukewarm' at best, using local potatoes - not Russet. I think the best dish we had was the ice-cream dessert. No surprise there since it's all from the tub. The soup was over salted.

Overall a disappointing experience especially since meat was not prime selection, wine selection very limited, overall meal was below average at best.

It was a thursday night, the restaurant was not crowded and yet the staff sat us down right next to only other big group even though there's plenty of room.

Advertised as the best steak in town - it was ok. The set menu included a chowder which couldn't eat. Children enjoyed the idea of eating in a ship, staff were friendly.
