Polite personnel and nice interior, but noisy and hot

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed May 6, 2021
We spent 4 nights in the hotel in May during Easter holidays:
Pros:
- Personnel is polite and helpful
- Rooms are large, with nice interior and a seating area
- The prices of restaurant , cafe and the mini bar inside the rooms are good
- The food was with acceptable quality

Cons
- The rooms are being heated/cooled via a central system - if this system is set to heat, the visitor can only turn the heating on, but (s)he cannot turn on cooling. As temperatures can often fluctuate a lot during Spring/Autumn, we found ourselves in a very hot weather and without a way to cool the room (and also no one fixed the issue when we complained about it).
- The hotel is in the centre of the city next to a church, there are also a lot of benches and an open seating area in front for the restaurant and the cafe. All these factors make the area quite noisy - the church bells each morning, drunk/partying people shouting at night from the street and also from the restaurant. These noises were irritating on closed windows, but turned out to be a big problem combined with the lack of cooling as we were forced to keep the windows open.
- The mattress was very firm - I am used to sleeping on medium mattresses both at home and in other hotels - this one was so firm that I actually left the hotel with aches in several places from sleeping on it.
- we had issues with the TV which were only partially fixed

We called the hotel and reserved two-bedroom suite and were offered a price of 250 leva for something advertised as having two bedrooms and a living-room. When we travelled 150 km from Sofia and arrived at the hotel it turned out that they offer one bedroom and a living room. Otherwise for two bedrooms and a living room the only thing that they can offer is a so called presidential suite for 400 leva. We asked to speak with the receptionist who was on duty the day before and took the reservation and first the woman at the reception told us that she had no idea who was working yesterday and after a while dialed a number and magically found her colleague who explained on the telephone that we got her wrong and she offered us one bedroom apartment and there is nothing that she can do?! After such offensive behavior and advertising one thing and then trying to push another we left the hotel. So do only electronic reservations where you have written confirmation what are you getting with this hotel.

Rooms are small apartments, price is very low if I compare with similar quality in for example Sofia. Location is also nice, direct in the centre and on walking distance from the covered bridge and along the nice river.

Room tip: Due to the nightclub in the cellar, best choice is a room on higher level.

Nice hotel, clean, staff friendly, great food in the restaurant, BUT: breakfast basic and all extras have to be paid (not a buffet), hotel not maintained - leaking ceilings, broken tiles in some rooms, cheap toilet paper, towels old and some had stains, very very very noisy, even with the windows shut. It should be a 3-star hotel with lower prices.

Room tip: As high as possible as there is a lot of noise from the street.

Thank you for a wonderful 2 night stay. This is an excellent hotel with friendly staff, who also spoke English. Rooms, and food can not be faulted, extensive variety on menu, the restaurant provided absolutely delicious meals. I would gladly recommend this hotel to anyone when you visit this delightful town.

An exceptional hotel in Bulgaria. Not expensive. It is a deluxe hotel, modern. The rooms are as an appartment ! Situated in the downtown of this town- Lovech. Friendly staff; clean, elegant, without noise. Restaurant, bar, parking; a promenade near the hotel. Visits to old Lovech, the covered bridge, the Middle Age forteress.
