Took advantage of the seating in the back of the fish and chip shop to sit and eat our freshly cooked delicious fish and chips .
We have in the past had takeaways from here and taken them into the Physic garden when weather permits but on this visit it was raining badly so chose to " eat in", as we have done on our last three visits.
The staff are very friendly and if the owner is there he is extremely hospitable.
Thank you Cowbridge Fish Bar.
See you again.

I deliberated between 'Poor' and 'Terrible'.

Its a shame there is no competition in the area for Cowbridge Fish Bar. If there was I'm pretty sure i would be dining with the competitor. This place really needs to step its game up. In fact I would recommend a complete overhaul.

All chips are served in a box, which not only generates unnecessary waste, it also means the food goes cold really quickly too. You also seem to get more box than food. I would far prefer they did away with the pretense of sophistication and just wrap them in paper like a normal chip shop.

The small fish alone comes in at £3.50, which is generally cooked to order so you have to wait for it to be cooked. At least as its cooked to order you would expect it to be good. It really isn't. The batter is extremely soggy and as a result you tend to just strip it off and eat the fish. The end result being a box of cold, soggy batter and a couple of cold chips. Making you look at it and think that was not an experience i would like to relive in a hurry. Especially for that price.

The chips also seem very greasy and lack any crisp. I'm no chip expert but its almost like the oil is not hot enough and so it just absorbs into the potato and slow cooks it. The picture of the chips on here is a good example of what to expect.

I've been here a couple of times recently and been told they have run out of mushy peas. These are peas that they keep in little polystyrene containers and microwave to order, so i see no real excuse for them not to ensure they have enough in stock; especially on the weekend. On our last experience the wife had a chicken and mushroom pie, which was cold and later found to have a hair stuck to the base.

The opening hours are crazy. The idea of a chip shop closing at 9:00 just seems like madness. Most chip shops stay open until pubs close don't they? And if you want a chip on a Sunday you'd better put the oven on because this lot aren't interested in frying you any potatoes; its their day of rest. (Probably from working all those late nights).

Don't expect any charm offensive either. What could be their saving grace is actually the final straw. No smiles, no small talk, no sign they appreciate your custom. In fact it almost feels like you should apologise for inconveniencing them with outlandish requests for food.

Somebody please open a normal chip shop in the area and show this lot how its done.

We called into this chip shop on our way home two days ago and bought one large chips to share. These have to be the worst chips we’ve ever tasted, they had a distinct horrible flavour never experienced before, they were so bad that we had to throw them away! It wasn’t caused by any salt or vinegar as we didn’t have any.
I can only assume that they either use poor quality/old oil to fry them. We shall not visit them again.

Had a small bag of chips here and I would calculate I had a cone of chips worth for about the £1.80 demanded . Complete rip off and annoying that they have monopoly of Cowbridge . Always been a disappointing place .

I used to enjoy the chippy in Cowbridge until a recent visit, I was given a box with just about enough chips to make a couple of chip butty's and to be honest they were like rubber. The fish was also small. Not good value for money, lets face it, chips cost very little to produce and so a decent size bag of chips goes a long way, no need to be so tight.
