I was in one of the cabin rooms, the place was super clean and very nice with mosquito netting and windows, very quiet as well. The owner was super frinedly and the staff were great, breakfast time was a great time haha. It's only slightly pricier than other hostels but you get your moneys worth with everything it brings. Its really well placed with a view of the beach. It's got a really nice chilling area as well, theres pool, would've been great to have gone with a few friends.

We loved our two nights at Itapoa! Our cabin was private and cozy and breakfast was served with a sea view (and a nice show from the dolphins). Would also recommend going with their tour guide to isla de la plata.

Hostel Italia is a really cool place to stay. The are rooms in the main building and individual cabanes in the garden. The quality of rooms is high.

There is a lounge and a great bar restaurant with hammocks and a balcony looking over the ocean. It's eco friendly and profits support local conservation projects.

Very helpful, relaxed staff can get you discounts on bike hire, surfing, snorkeling, tours, etc.

We were recommended Itapoa from a great hostel we stayed at in Cuenca and it did not disappoint. While it's a but farther from the main things than others (an extra 3 blocks, we all could use the exercise, though!) it is the best hostel by far. For 36$, you get a private bungalow for 2 people which is a value, by far. We looked at other places and they were completely run down, had no windows, or atmosphere at all. Maria and her son are extremely helpful with transportation and suggesting the best food options in town (like the best ceviche - Cabaña Bambu past the pier and to the left!). Moreover they have expansive gardens and a hammock bar/breakfast area with pool table that feels cozy and lends itself to socializing. Their volunteer Francisco was helpful as well. Our rooms were also beautifully furnished with special wooden furniture from the area. Lastly, they're paired with a government Amazon project to preserve the biodiversity of the jungle, so I have a special place for them in my heart.

Hosteria Itapoa is situated towards the north of the beachfront strip. It is composed of several private cabanas and a set of private rooms. We had one of the cabanas for two people. There were large windows and a good working fan. The bathroom was large and had good hot water most of the time. There is beautiful natural wood furniture throughout the room and common spaces in the hostel.

The gardens are large and well kept. The main cabana up front has ocean views making breakfast a scenic affair. Breakfast consisted if eggs, bread, jam, margarine, fresh juice, coffee or tea, and fresh fruit. It was enough to have a hearty start to the day.

Maria, the owner, was incredible welcoming and helpful. Francisco was also a wonderful host but he is only around for another week he told us. The Hosteria is associated with a conservation project in the surrounding area and therefore, has good connections for activities in Machalilla National Park.

This is not a party spot and does cost a little more but you get a lot for your money.
