Everything was perfect: Food, cabana (we were in the Lobo del Mar), gardens with two chilled dogs, many huge iguanas up in the three plus a few very rare white (northern ghost!) bats in one of the many palm leaves, beach right on the other side of the small street, and lovely owners! And all the art, so charming! The tours (Isla de la Plata for example) are offered even at a slightly cheaper rate than at regular places on the street (amazing service which is hard to find in Ecuador!). Most guests only stayed for a night or two, which was our initial idea too. But then we stayed for six nights and left wishing we could have stayed longer. By far the best place we stayed in Ecuador!

Room Tip: Lobo del mar was beautiful, but surely others are too.

The Mandala Hosteria is a truly unique establishment which just oozes care and love, both in its environment and how you are treated. We stayed three nights while doing some diving in Puerto Lopez and they couldn't have been nicer hosts. The cabinas feel private and are very clean and nicely appointed (and have plenty of hot water). The common area and restaurant are beautiful and the food is the best we had in town, with a very generous breakfast included.

But most of all, the staff was incredibly helpful and thoughtful all around. They volunteered to take us to the bus station at an obnoxiously early time and even packed us a breakfast since we would be missing that. They also arranged another day to serve us breakfast a bit early due to us having to get out early for a dive. Just overall, very thoughtful and friendly in an environment full of funky beautiful art. Couldn't recommend them more.

They are right on the beach and provide towels you can bring out and have built cabanas to hang out on. They are the south side of the beach where there is hardly any development and far fewer people, which makes that part of the beach feel much more private. It is about a 5-10 minute walk on the very nice malecon along the beach to get in the main part of town.

I stayed here with my 3 young adult children and we had an amazing time. This hotel is a jewel and the gardens are absolutely beautiful. To get back to your cabin, you have to walk on a gravel pathway that take you through a lush tropical garden full of flowing plants and trees. It is absolutely stunning and I marveled daily at the variety of plants.
We made our arrangements well in advance and really liked the cabins we were assigned. The cabins came equipped with a hammock and my kids really enjoyed them.

The hotel arranged a taxi for us from Manta as well as pre - booking us on a trip to Isla de la Plata. The visit to Isla de la plata was a very nice adventure and we met very nice people along the way. Yes - we saw beautiful Whales jumping from the ocean! We also went to Agua Blanca. We learned about the native people that inhibited the land and currently cultivate crops on their land.

I can't forget about the wrap around porch that looks out onto the ocean. This porch was so comfortable and was also where we ate our daily meals. Breakfast was part of our daily room charge and it was very good. Fresh juice every day! We also liked the meals so much there that we basically chose to eat dinner there while we were visiting. In addition to the meals, we found that the waiters were very nice also.

Thanks Hosteria Mandala for all that you do for the Puerto Lopez area!

This place was perfect in every way! Food, service, accommodations, etc!! Jill was helpful in booking an excursion from the moment I arrived, showed me to my villa that was beyond beautiful and comfortable and answered my questions. The hammocks and chairs on the front deck were all mine and I thoroughly enjoyed sitting with a glass of wine and enjoying the privacy and sounds of nature. Bonus: when in desperate need for a safety pin, Jill was able to supply me with two different sizes in less than 2 minutes! I cannot say enough great things about this establishment and to consider anywhere else will likely only lead to disappointment!! I will definitely be returning in the future.

Stayed here a few weeks ago and had a wonderful experience. Two lovely rooms, one for us and one for the kids. Ours was large and had a very comfy bed with mossie net and a terrace with hammocks for lounging. Beautiful tropical, lush gardens. Fabulous central building with tons of quirky games to keep the kids amused, musical instruments to play and books to read. Great restaurant and lovely breakfasts. Even the dinner tables were decorated with board games to play whilst waiting for food. Towels, balls and toys to take over the road to the beach (2 mins walk). Also lovely to see the hostel putting money/investment back into the local community and environment.

This was a real oasis on our travels around Ecuador. The Mandala was really a great place to stay for a few days to recharge our batteries !! Lots of facilities to keep you entertained, large selection of games and an excellent library - and the lodge we stayed in was fantastic, complete with our own terrace and hammocks !! All the accommodation is set in beautifully maintained gardens. The food was great and the staff very attentive and helpful. Right on the beach, the sunsets were amazing.
