Saigon Rose is located in Victoria Street, Richmond in the heart of a thriving vietnamese strip of resraurants. Many of the restaurants in the strip are bland and feature lino or tiled floors, drab decor, plastic sauces bottles and dismissive staff etc Saigon Rose stands out for its higher level of service and more sophisticated decor.

The food was tasty but no better than than the other restaurants in the strip. Infact many of the more humble restaurants serve food that is superior and more inventive than what we ate at Saigon Rose.

We ate on a Friday night and the restaurant was busy and it was hard to converse despite us being seated close to each other. Our meal was let down by the consistent smell of cigarettes wafting in from the dining area on the footpath.

The bowl of cocnut rice was $8 and the serve was really small. The cantonese beef ($15) was tasty, Chicken Chilli Lemongrass ($15 ) was delicious and I recommend it, boneless duck $22 was so fatty it was not very pleasant to eat.. This restaurant was ok and the staff tried hard and were helpful. It is just not a stand out.

We ordered some amazing Saigon rose squid and really nice Catonese beef, both of which were lovely. The Mongolian lamb was uninspiring as were the duck spring rolls and the fried spring rolls.
The service was very quick and there was good meat/ vegetable combination. This is a loud but friendly restaurant, I would bring a family or good friends for a generous feed - it is not elegant or 'classy' so don't come for a romantic evening.
Good value and friendly menu. 2 starters, 4 dishes, 2 big serves of fried rice a bottle of wine and 2 softdrinks came to $150

The meal itself was very enjoyable. However an hour after eating I could not quench my thirst and got a terrible headache, which always happens to me when there is MSG in the food. I did ask if their food contained MSG and was told no...... I ended up consuming 5 x 600mls of water in 3 hours after having dinner here. Certainly wouldn't go back there.

Enquired a booking for 5 - 2 Adults, 2 child and a baby - they refuse booking as can only book up to 4 - their excuse that their table setting can only accomdate 4. I brought 2 scoopon - what a disspointment.

Re phoned funny without scoopon you can book for as many people you like and they will accomodate your needs.

too tight - bad hadling - think they want to promote their restaurant via scoopon but instead demotes values.

The starters were prawns wrapped in duck skin, and prawn spring rolls. These came with special sauces and all very good.

The mains consisted of a tastey fried rice special, moist prawns wrapped in scallops and a very tender salt and herb crusted calarmari. Quite often I am reluctant to order calamari as at times if not cooked right can be very chewy. Their calamari just melted in your mouth. Could not fault any of the meals.

Service was very quick despite the restaurant being full. The ambiance was not very special and had a cafe type feel. Loctaed in busy Victoria St were the choices are plentifull.

Definitely recommend place to dine. Excellent variety of choices in the menu and as such was difficult to make our choice.
