Saigon Rose is located in Victoria Street, Richmond in the heart of a thriving vietnamese strip of resraurants. Many of the restaurants in the strip are bland and feature lino or tiled floors, drab decor, plastic sauces bottles and dismissive staff etc Saigon Rose stands out for its higher level of service and more sophisticated decor.
The food was tasty but no better than than the other restaurants in the strip. Infact many of the more humble restaurants serve food that is superior and more inventive than what we ate at Saigon Rose.
We ate on a Friday night and the restaurant was busy and it was hard to converse despite us being seated close to each other. Our meal was let down by the consistent smell of cigarettes wafting in from the dining area on the footpath.
The bowl of cocnut rice was $8 and the serve was really small. The cantonese beef ($15) was tasty, Chicken Chilli Lemongrass ($15 ) was delicious and I recommend it, boneless duck $22 was so fatty it was not very pleasant to eat.. This restaurant was ok and the staff tried hard and were helpful. It is just not a stand out.
