My husband and I stayed at The Afroessa Hotel from 15 to 21 June 2017. I had done much research prior to making my booking directly with Ioanna Georga, the owner of the hotel, and we are so glad we made the wise decision of staying at The Afroessa. The location at Imerovigli is the best, affording us a view of both ends of Santorini. It's a quieter town than Fira or Oia, but that's exactly what we wanted. Those were great for visiting, but it's always great to come back to a quiet home.
Ioanna helped me to book a transfer from the ferry terminal and we were met by Eddie, a strong and very helpful young man, who carried our bags (1 large and 1 medium-sized luggage) down the 120+ steps to our suite. Just walking toward the hotel in Imerovigli was impressive - what an awesome view! Check-in was flawless and we were escorted to our suite #12. Ioanna was very kind to allocate us this brand new room, closest to the edge of the caldera and very private. The photos attached in this review show the view from the private terrace of our suite.
The suite was large and very comfortable. It had a glass shower screen and a separate toilet cubicle. Water pressure in the shower was good. Aircon was effective and the room was very comfortable, easily one of the nicest we have ever stayed in. Just a suggestion: while there was a mini- fridge and kettle provided, we felt that amenity-wise, it would be more complete if a Nespresso machine and complimentary teabags, sugar and creamer were supplied with the room. Also, we felt that a better shampoo and conditioner can be supplied, rather than a shampoo/shower gel combination (we bought our own shampoo and conditioner from the nearby pharmacy in the end). Breakfast was not included in our rate, but we could order from the restaurant, with the option of dining from our own private terrace.
Afroessa has its own dining room, but only for her guests. The menu is fixed, breakfast hours from 8.30am to 11am, and the restaurant is open from 3pm to 9pm (last order). The chef is Ioanna's son Spyros, an affable and friendly young man whom we met and chatted with. Other noteworthy staff are Dina (who served us at dinner) and Dora (a friendly and helpful housekeeper / waitress). It was because of the lovely staff that made the hotel special.
Moving about from Imerovigli to Oia or Fira was easy by public bus - cost was 1.80 Euro per person per way. However, moving about in Santorini not on the bus routes leaves much to be desired, unless you rent a private vehicle.
Overall, we would highly recommend a visit to Santorini, and particularly, to stay at The Afroessa. It is a very picturesque and beautiful island.
