This delightful self-catering apartment was newly converted for the 2015 season and offers amazing panoramic views over the whole of the Caldera. It provides spacious and comfortable accommodation which has been nicely designed to take advantage of views from inside the apartment as well as outside. The terrace to the front and roof area above, are both for the exclusive use of the apartment. The outside areas are also relatively private, which is a big plus in Santorini, where it is not unusual to find a public footpath running right in-front of your terrace ! The second Ananda suite to the rear has a front terrace area to the right, but this is not intrusive, and the public footpath to the left is some distance away, and not heavily used.
The location is great, being at one of the highest points on the rim of the crater at Imerovigli. Most importantly you can view the sunset directly from inside the suite, or on the terrace, as the sun sets over Thirasia island. From Imerovigli you can walk down on the scenic path to Fira (approx 1 hr). and you can easily access the path to climb to the top of the beautiful Skoras rock for great views (Note this is an unprotected path and some climbing is necessary to reach the very top of the rock). The balcony has one of the best views on the island so you can see the whole of the crater, watching enormous cruise ships come and go, looking like little toys 300 metres below you. Just below the terrace you can overlook a little church, the Blue Note restaurant and the Skoras rock. Please note there is a disused old building and ruined walls just below you. This is clearly visible in my photos but I didn't feel this distracted much from the view.
There are lots of restaurants within easy walking distance in Imerovigli, many with beautiful sunset views too. 5 minutes walk back to shops and several car-rental operations on the main street, so unless it is peak season I would suggest you rent a car as and when you need it to visit points further away on the island, including the ancient ruins at Akrotiri, and the very upmarket "sunset" village at Oia.
The appartment is difficult to find on arrival so I strongly advise you to take a shared transfer or taxi which can be arranged by the owners from the port or airport, for around 10 euros per person one way. Rigas met us as arranged to let us in, show us all features of the apartment, and give us tips on what to see on the island. He also left a mobile phone with his number programed to use in case of any problems. We used this to arrange our departure taxi with him, and got a quick response. The apartment is also thoroughly cleaned every day.
There are very few negatives I can think of for the Ananda suites. Obviously if you want a pool, hot tub, or 24 hour hotel services this is not for you. There are some steps to reach the apartment (not many by Santorini standards) but still not suitable for the elderly or disabled. The outside areas are never 100% private, but far better than most on the island. Otherwise, just make sure you are not put off by the old ruin to the front, but this really didn't bother us. I thought the location was superb, the apartment was beautiful, and the views will always be a highlight of my holiday in Greece!
