“unhappy potential customer”
Reviewed 9 March 2012

I booked my holiday in January 2012 and was due to stay in this apartment, i have never been to Puerto Rico before and was really looking forward to going and specifically staying in this apartment. And yesterday just 3 days before we are due to go on holiday the hotel cancels our accommodation due to overbooking. I had read a previous review whereby the exact same thing happened to another person due to stay here. What hotel takes 2 months to realise they are overbooked and secondly how do they select which guests to cancel and move to a less favourable hotel. And to add insult we are offered buttons by the tour company as a means of compensation when its quite clearly the fault of the hotel and there incompetence. If i had wanted a 2* hotel i would have booked it from the outset. Quite frankly if this is how this hotel operates then im happy not to be staying there.

I stayed here in 2010 it was very good although I have to say it's right at the top of a hill so it is not for people who are not able to walk up lots of stairs, belive me !!! The other thing is that the entertainment stops at around 1am so you are awake till then. It was so loud one night that most of the time we ended up at the near by Mccdonalds till 1:30. The food is nice especially for a hotel in Spain, another thing is the heat if you have young children its not the best place in June !!!

I stayed here with 3 friends on 20/2/12, we didn't know what to expect as there were mixed reviews but we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the cala dor (not the sanfe as the lady in the review below seems to have put her review in the wrong place). It was clean and tidy, the room was cleaned 2 out of the 4 days we were there with fresh towels left on both occasions.we were in room 216 which we had seen photos of on trip advisor and yes we ha the ginger cats too. you can hear the music from the shopping centre but not anything to complaine about. The staff are friendly and very helpful all in all a good place to stay.the stairs are an issue if your not to good on your feet but we found that after the first night of walking up them it got easier each nigh, although 2 of my friends got a taxi up to the hotel every night which was only 3 euros a night. The beach is lovely and the water is crystal clear although a little cold. We would quite happily stay here again.

Basic but nice place! Apartments basic, but clean! Friendly staff. Pool on the small side, and very cold in winter! Can also be noisy during the evening as you are close to the pubs and bars! There are also lots of steps to reach the resort centre, although there is a road alternative! Good for younger generation.

Having read what looked to be a very mixed bag of reviews we set off to the Cala D'or with no real indication of what we were heading into. All I can advise is that it's ok, it's not the best I've stayed at but by no means is it the worst. On the subject of noise, for our week (Mon 6th Feb onwards) there were no problems concerning the hotel or music, to be honest I wish there were something to complain about here as the hotel was completely devoid of any atmosphere what so ever. On our first day there was a guy trying to generate some life in and about the pool area (games etc), but after the first afternoon we didn't see him or any other entertainment the whole week we were there. There was a 80's style radio station on during the day (not loud) but that seemed to fizzle out at around 6pm and I've seen more life in a tramps vest than we witnessed in the bar for the whole of our stay. The only noise to speak of was generated by a group of about 20 or so ex residents of Dale Farm when they turned up on mass the day after we arrived, who on arriving back at the hotel at about 5am two mornings running, decided to carry on their drinking, swearing, door bell ringing festivities well into the morning. As this ceased after about 2-3 days into their stay I can only put this down to the staff of the hotel getting involved, which if this was the case was to their credit.
The rooms we found to be more than adequate, comprising of a double bedroom with plenty of wardrobe space, beds wern't great (as has been mentioned in previous reviews), but by no means are they as bad as have been made out. You get the usual 2" thick pillow as is found in most hotels but on asking for additional pillows and blankets at reception, found them in the room when returning from a day at the beach, and as in most cases the double bed is two single beds pushed together. The kitchen was clean enough and although we didn't use the facility while we were there, seemed to be stocked up well enough with an adequate amount of cuttlery, crockery and kitchen appliances.
Decent living area at the front of the appartment and the two sofas in the living area double up as single beds for the kids. We were on the second floor overlooking the pool and at a stretch could also see the sea from the balcony which was of a decent enough size complete with a couple of chairs and a table.
Would suggest that due to the location of the hotel you would need to be resonably fit to get up and down the 200 or so stairs that lead up and down from the hotel to the resort centre, but again a short taxi ride to and from would probably only cost 2-3 euros.
The resort has a decent enough range of bars and places to eat at reasonable enough prices and the beach is very good, 9 euros for 2 beds and a parasol.
Only real downside to the whole holiday is the ammount of pain in the backside Brits working out there pestering you every 100 of so yards between the resort centre to the beach to try and flog timeshares, boat trips etc, which by the end of the holiday had us resorting to planning a route to the beach that avoided most if not all of them. As we'd been to the resort previously we were fully aware of the scams they try to pull and witnessed a couple of mug punters being drawn in (you've won a prize! - free boat trip! etc) only to be sent off in taxis to be grilled for about 3 hours on why they don't want a time share. Don't let them start a conversation (hi guys are you from England? where are you from?) and although they can be quite rude if you don't engage them, who cares!
To sum up we found the hotel to be more than adequate for a weeks stay in February at a good price, yes we've stayed in better places in the resort but have paid a lot more to do so.

Just returned from a break to sunny Puerto Rico, how nice to leave snow behind and be able to stretch out on a sunbed or beach! Had a lovely break but just a few bits of advice if planning on staying at the Cala d'Or. Firstly, it is worth noting that there are quite a few steps to navigate on arrival. There is a lift up to the apartments from reception but nothing from the road side to get up to reception. The apartments themselves are basic but pretty clean and well equipped with microwave, tea towel, toaster etc. The bath and hand towels were changed 3 times during our week long stay and the beds made 3 times also. Our room (216) unfortunately had very little direct sunlight during the day. We had to wait until around 4:30/5pm for the balcony to actually be in the suns rays and it only lasted for an hour or so. Although it is understandable to a degree as the winter sun obviously sits lower in the sky than at summertime it was still a tad dissapointing. We could have moved rooms but didn't fancy the 25e charge for this. The staff were all friendly and helpful enough, especially Leo the entertainments guy - just look out for the snakes! (all part of the fun!!!). As for music, although there was music played during the day/evening it was not unbearably loud, especially after around 7pm when it was either very low or off completely. Overall the Cala d'Or is worth the money if you don't pay for, or expect luxury. Basic but perfectly suitable for a week or two.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms ending in 14 or above from floor 2 upwards (i.e 214) during low season as they do not ge...

I agree with those that say that every time there is a real review which mentions the terrible noise in this hotel - someone comes along and overwrites it. Family or friends of the owners perhaps? There is a music that starts at around lunctime and goes to 12 mn every day apart from Monday here and it is very loud. If you are out at other discos in the town until then I'm sure you wouldn't notice it. If you are a family staying there as we were you will find it impossible to go to sleep. If you ask for the music to be turned down they will refuse. A simple statement of fact that Thompson will agree with.
We found the hotel clean, the rooms small but quite well equipped, the views nice, the pool fine as as I never use a sunbed it wasn't an issue. We trooped up and down the hill happily and liked the resort. We just couldn't get to sleep and were extremely tired all the time.

Room Tip: Worst noise is near the pool area but it probably has the best views
