We recently spent a night at the Luquillo Sunrise Beach Inn with our three childrend (8, 6 and 16 months). We Flew in to San Juan and selected Luquillo because of its close proximity to El Yunque (the rainforest), which was our destination the next day. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful the entire time. We stayed in the "green room", which is an experiment with low environmental impact living, including solar lighting and AC and rainwater toilets and showers. This is a very nice suite that is actually a separate house located behind the hotel. It was clean, bright, comfortable and quiet, and a cool experience for us and our kids. There is a nice yard between the green room and the hotel with pretty palms and our boys enjoyed the opportunity to run and play there (and made a few friends over the wall separating the hotel from the neighboring apartment). Breakfast is great and served by very nice staff on the second floor terrace, which is a stunning setting. We very much enjoyed our brief stay there and would definitely stay there again. We stayed at the Fajardo Inn once before, and it was okay, but I would chose Luquillo Sunrise.

Oh - one other thing - dinner! I was disappointed we could not get in to Pasta y Pueblo, the little restaurant right around the corner that gets rave reviews here on tripadvisor (we got there at 6 and they couldn't fit us in - business is good!). We walked through town to Rincon, a local, very Puerto Rico restaurant. Food was good, the establishment's owner was very nice. For those not used to Puerto Rico, they may find the walk a little unsettling. Just remember that poor doesn't mean dangerous - Luquillo has its share of poverty but is perfectly safe. - Chris

My boyfriend and I stayed for 4 nights and look forward to our return. This was the perfect place for our winter getaway. The hotel is on a quiet street right across from the ocean. The facility, staff and service is outstanding. Maria, Sheila, Damian and the owners, Marsha and Gary, were extremely helpful and ensured that we had a great visit. Our room was simple, clean and comfortable. Breakfast (included) is a continental breakfast with a daily hot breakfast special. We had breakfast pizza, scrambled eggs with potatoes, French toast and our favorite, the breakfast burrito. Breakfast is served on the terrace with a beautiful view of the ocean. They also have a conference room with tons of information about the area: maps, tours and activities, restaurant menus, and 2 notebooks filled with handwritten restaurant and tour reviews. The hotel provides beach towels and chairs. The staff is happy to help with planning your activities and making reservations if needed.

Luquillo is a small town about 40 minutes east of San Juan, right off of Route 3. The hotel is easy to get to thanks to the directions on their website and if you have a GPS, I would recommend using their GPS coordinates instead of the street address. Luquillo was a great location as we were not far from San Juan, 10 minutes from El Yunque rainforest and close to Fajardo where there is a lot to do (tours, ferries, etc.).

You must frequent the local restaurants and the famous kioskos. We did not have one bad meal the entire time. Isamar Bakery (Rio Grande), El Rincon del Sabor, La Estacion (Fajardo), El Jefe Burger, La Parilla (both kioskos) and Luquillo’s famous Pasta y Pueblo, which is right around the corner from the hotel. You must also check out Chachi’s and try their fantastic corn ice cream.

My favorite of the Luquillo beaches is the public beach (balenario). It is a 45 minute walk from the hotel along the coast or a 5 minute drive. If you drive, there is a $5 entrance fee. It is open from 9AM-5PM, closed on Mondays. The beach is stunning and the ocean is much calmer there than the other Luquillo beaches, making it ideal for swimming. There is a bath house with bathrooms and showers that you can use all day for a $1 fee. The beach is also right next to the kioskos so we would walk over for lunch and then head back to the beach.

I highly recommend doing one of the bioluminescent bay tours, which is super cool. There are only 4 bio bays in the world, with 3 being in Puerto Rico. We did an electric boat tour conducted by a lovely older gentleman, Captain Suarez. We also spent part of a day exploring El Yunque, which is a fascinating place.

I’m so glad we stayed here! You won’t find better value for the facility, staff, service and location anywhere else in Puerto Rico.

We enjoyed our stay, I wanted to stay at resort and my partner wanted to try Luquillo Sunrise Beach Inn. She was right.....We saved a ton of money and had a great time. Room 34 is the best in the place (top floor big balocony) so keep that in mind if you stay here. The shower/toilet area a little tight and the TV stand gets in the way a little when walking by it. Besides that it's clean and comfortable. Oh the breakfast....to die for and it's included! The only other nice touch that would have been nice is coffee, tea etc avaialble 24/7, but there is a nice coffee place in the square.

Luquillo Sunrise Beach Inn was a truely great hotel. This is a small hotel with about 17 rooms right on the beach. There is nothing overly fancy about this hotel so if you are looking for resort-style lodging this is not the place for you. The rooms were very clean and comfortable with a nice balcony. The ocean is 2 steps from the front gate and small beach is a 2-block walk. The best part about this hotel is the staff. They are incredibly friendly and are happy to provide suggestions on tours, restaurants and anything else you could imagine (they even provide hand-drawn maps with landmarks!). If you are looking to relax and go off the beaten path a little, this is a great place to stay!

Luquillo has beautiful beaches and this little hotel is right on the water. All the basics were just fine, and we also enjoyed the balcony, the use of beach chairs and boogie board, first floor shower to wash off the sand, and the lovely breakfast area with both continental breakfast items and one hot breakfast special item served by friendly staff members. A computer with internet is available, a nice learning and play table for kids, comfortable chairs to just sit back and watch the surf. Great small restaurant next door for dinner.
Reasonably priced. Free, secure parking.
