“Fine, but bad service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2011

Thought Ko Samet was lovely, pretty unspoilt. Stayed very close to beach in one of the huts, which was fine, and a fantastic price.
Didn't eat at the restaurant on site, because the older lady, the mother had such a bad, lazy attitude, I thought asking her for anything extra would be painful.
Her daughter was pretty helpful, but this woman, just could not be bothered with guests at all, not just me, saw it with other guests too.
When I left, I said 'thank you and bye' and there was just an uninterested grunt from her.
Can't understand their attitude.
I have worked plenty of service type jobs back in the UK and while they're not the most exciting or well paid, I have always tried to be polite and helpful!

The food here is very good. Great fresh baked breads and homemade goodness. The English lady that manages the place has no interest in providing good customer service. She's very snappy. She will make it uncomfortable during your stay. If you're not English, don't waste your time. But the food and the Thai staff are really cool. And the bathrooms are sketchy.

Basic bungalow with bathroom outside room. Nothing special. Nice restaurant although were ill (not sure if from here or from down the road). Handy internet and tv room. Nothing better for price close by. Is noisy well into the night but again other places probably worse as closer to the nightlife. Get to know the dogs before you come back late!!!!

Everything was almost perfect. Someone stole from us 450€ on departure day.
I am almost 100% sure that it was the cleaner. Althoug on the door may be to rent a lock (as we did), do not leave money in to the room notwithstanding. Samet was just a wonderful place. Sad to say---->Beware of thieves!

I go to Koh Samet every year (2-3 times a year). Compare other resorts + Bungalows around Ao Pai with the same amount of money, I would like to suggest Naga Bungalow.. The concrete room is big, lots of balcony space, bathroom is very private and the location is very quiet. But this place is only perfect for traveler who wants to touch the nature cuz there is no room with air-con at all.

The food from the restaurant is great and there is also the Muai Thai Gym which you can contact at the Naga's counter. The beach is very clean and perfect.

TIP: make sure to e-mail Sue and get directions on which port to land, most people don't know that you can walk for 10-15 miinutes and reach the bungalows without having to pay a taxi...
Word to the wise it can get noisy at night on the island, obviously people want a night life so be prepared to either join them or work on late night bug spray techniques...If you're choosy about showers and air conditioning I would recommend the slightly more expensive bungalows with their own private showers....Great laid back spot especially for low budget travellers. Baked goods and meals are available as well as internet, books, classes of thai boxing and yoga. Staff is friendly and helpful. And you are only 1 minute away from the beach.

We booked this accomodation on the recommendation of the lonely planet, just arriving there on the day and booking. The price was around $13 for two nights - so cheap! We expected the place to be pretty crappy at that price, but the room was great! We got a stone bungalow with twin beds, a fan and our own private bathroom. Showers were cold water only, but the weather was so hot it didn't matter!
Our bungalow was located on a hill up three flights of stairs - the staff were very eager to carry our bags up for us despite the sweltering heat, only cost 50bht (around $2).
The staff were all so friendly - ran free movies every night, gave me free internet and charged my ipod for me.
There was also a library that you could borrow books from to take to the beach. There was a restaurant at the reception desk - good basic food, but there were plenty of great restaurants nearby.
Located across the road right above the beach, was the Naga bar... a great facility, except it was extremely noisey on Fri/Sat night! My only other complaint would be that one traveller in the bungalow nextdoor, obviously brought home a Thai prostitute for the night!!! yuck!
I would definitely recommend Naga tho - friendly staff and such cheap accom, there were rooms even cheaper than ours if you just used the public toilets.
