Great market. Warm people. Good food. Great atmosphere. Rich city. Old buildings, didn't get bombed in the war so a lot is original.

Very big and nice market. Have some feuerwurst and gluhwein. Reasonable prices. Medieval area is more interesting than the regular one. There you can keep your earthenware cup as a souvenir.

As a big Christmas market fan I thought the Esslingen mediaeval market would be something a bit different to try. We took the S Bahn from Stuttgart which took approximately 15 minutes and the market was a short walk from the station through the more traditional advent market. What a lovely market! It was so atmospheric and just so different to the markets I'm used to visiting. The stallholders were in costume, the stalls were authentic (mouse roulette being our favourite!), the music was authentic, even the gluhwein and mulled cider was served in mediaeval goblets! It was probably the most child friendly market I have come across in years. We went midweek and spent the afternoon and early evening there. It was nice in the evening once all the flames were lit up but in my opinion much more bearable to wander around in the afternoon when it wasn't so busy.

We were in Stuttgart fir the Christmas Markets and wanted to explore a bit, so took a quick train to Esslingen. The town is very cute and quaint, what you would expect to see in a small historic town. The Christmas market was packed and really liked the medieval market, very fun. Wish the market wasn't quite so packed as it was hard to even move through much less look at an item. We walked around the village and found great scenic spots. Great day trip and enjoyed it.
