When we booked a 2 bed-room, 1-bath vacation rental on a dairy farm in Bavaria, we did not know what to expect. The place exceeded all our expectations. The property is located off the beaten path about a mile from the center of Halblech (a small village in the Allgau region of Bavaria). From the town you drive along a stream and after crossing a one-lane bridge and driving through a meadow, you reach a charming farm house. The owner greeted us and took us upstairs to our unit - modern, large and spotless. It had a great view from the balcony. 3 local beers with fresh baked pretzels were on the table and we immediately knew our stay was going to be great. The owner asked if we needed fresh milk and fresh eggs from the farm for breakfast. Naturally the answer was yes.
For us, it was the perfect place. It was quiet and relaxing. We prepared our own breakfast and several evenings fixed a light dinner. There are several grocery stores within five miles. We did wake up early one morning to see the dairy farm in operation.
During the day, we would go site seeing and hiking. You can start a hike at the dairy farm or drive a few minutes to a trail along the Alps. You are a short drive to various castles and charming villages. In the evening, you can relax and enjoy the scenery from your balcony or go to a local restaurant. You have numerous nearby choices for dining and we did not have a bad meal.
Would we go back to this place? The answer is yes and we wil.
